#BlueJays growing confident they will acquire RA Dickey, source says.

#BlueJays have the pieces to do this -- Gose and Arencibia or D'Arnaud -- although I do not have confirmation that is the offer.

Sources: D'Arnaud very much in play in Dickey talks between #BlueJays and #Mets. Deal would be bigger, multiple pieces going both ways.

This off season is ruined for me if the Jays trade D'Arnaud for Dickey.

I know what dickey did last year was incredible but given his career track record i would be hesitant to bring him in at that price... last year has fluke season written all over it in my opinion

Re: 2012 Hot Stove Rumours Thread

I think there is a reason the mets are so desperate to get rid of him and thats because they know they wont be able to ever get more for him, his contract demands are very reasonable given the fact he just won the cy young. When a team that usually doesnt have a problem spending money is not willing to give the guy a small 2 year extension there is something not right there

Re: 2012 Hot Stove Rumours Thread

So... full season of the Verlander-Scherzer-Fister-Sanchez top four to the rotation. Another 2012 Angels in the making, or the best top-4 in the AL? Not expecting much out of Rick Porcello, but at the same time he IS only just this season going to be the same age Justin Verlander was as a ROOKIE in 2006. Sometimes it feels like he's been around just as long as Verlander as it is. :P

Re: 2012 Hot Stove Rumours Thread

Heh... amusing thought: JV has 124 wins going into his age 30 season right now. Rick Porcello has a 48 win head start on him. So... if Rick Porcello manages over 84 wins in the next 6 seasons (averages the exact same total he's already had over the past 4 seasons) - he'll have more wins going into his age 30 season than JV.

Odds are it'll be at about that point that their career totals start to separate. But if he's a healthy workhorse through, say, age 40? Guy could have a 250 win career. Just out of sheer mediocrity. Throw in some spike years when he hits his peak and Rick Porcello could be a 270+ win guy. Crazy thought, eh? Then again, I pretty much just described Jamie Moyer...

$80 million is a lot of money, but I don't think the average fan realizes the type of stuff Anibal has. At the same time, you have to wonder if at this point he'll ever really "get it" as far as what it takes to be a dominant pitcher. He's inconsistent, has a tendency to give up the big inning and not pitch his way out of jams despite having multiple out pitches. It's unlikely, but if he and Scherzer can actually put it all together for an entire season, good luck rest of the American League.

I really don't want Dickey on the Halos. I agree with the fluke season prediction.

If R.A. Dickey agrees to a contract extension, he will be a Toronto Blue Jay.

The Jays and New York Mets have an agreement in principle on a Dickey trade, but the deal is contingent on the right-hander signing an extension with Toronto, according to major-league sources.

The two clubs opened a 72-hour negotiating window on Saturday, and the window expires at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, sources said.

Dickey, the reigning National League Cy Young award winner, is signed for $5 million next season. He was seeking a two-year extension in the $25 million range from the Mets. It is not known whether he would accept similar terms from the Jays, or ask for a deal closer to market value.

It is also not known whether the deal would collapse if Dickey declined to sign an extension, or if the teams would agree to a different exchange of players.

The trade, according to the New York Post, would send Dickey, catcher Josh Thole and a non-elite prospect to the Jays, with the Mets receiving catcher Travis D’Arnaud, right-hander Noah Syndergaard, catcher John Buck and another non-elite prospect.

Dickey, 38, went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA for the Mets last season. D’Arnaud, 23, is the Jays’ No. 1 prospect for the second straight year, according to Baseball America. Syndergaard, 20, is the No. 3 prospect.

The deal would be a coup for the Mets, who would fill their need for a long-term catcher with D'Arnaud and add Syndergaard to a stable of top pitching prospects that already includes right-handers Zack Wheeler and Matt Harvey.

The Jays, meanwhile, would be continuing their “all-in” approach that began when they made their blockbuster with the Miami Marlins in November, acquiring shortstop Jose Reyes, right-hander Josh Johnson, left-hander Mark Buehrle and outfielder Emilio Bonifacio.

A rotation of Dickey, Johnson, Buehrle, right-hander Brandon Morrow and lefty Ricky Romero — combined with the Jays’ signing of free-agent outfielder Melky Cabrera and other additions — could make Toronto the favorite in the AL East.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox appear more vulnerable than they have in recent seasons, and the Jays clearly are trying to seize the opportunity and return to the playoffs for the first time since 1993.

Most of the Jays’ best players — including Reyes, right fielder Jose Bautista and first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion — are under contract through at least 2015.

What the... the Red Sox "appear more vulnerable than they have in recent seasons"? Did Morosi & Rosenthal miss last season? Boston has no plans to compete before 2015.

Toronto is obviously all in for this year, but damn that'd be a good trade for the Mets. I hope it doesn't happen.

The YANKEES vulnerable. The YANKEES vulnerability is not winning 100 games.

Hell no, I don't want to trade 2 of our top prospects in D'Arnaud and Syndegaard for Dickey.
