Re: San Jose Earthquakes
![]() Quakes close in on Shield after sweeping Seattle Make it a clean sweep. Before the season few expected the San Jose Earthquakes to win every one of their three matches against the Seattle Sounders, including two at CenturyLink Field. But the Quakes completed the feat on Saturday with a 2-1 triumph. Chris Wondolowski scored his 10th game-winner this season (a new MLS record) and extended his lead in the Golden Boot race. The frontrunner for MVP credited the Seattle crowd for their part in his performance: "When you have a good atmosphere, it helps raise my level, I think. It makes me want to raise it a little extra notch." The Sounders, whose last loss came against the Earthquakes, were missing star players Eddie Johnson and Mauro Rosales. But manager Sigi Schmid wasn’t about to make excuses: "We would have been overrun even with Eddie and Mauro,” he said. "They killed us in the first half, to be quite honest. If we play like we played in the first half, we won't go very far [in the playoffs]." http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...eeping-seattle |

Recap: Quakes come back again in wild 3-3 tie with FCD
![]() SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Goonies’ legend just keeps growing – as does FC Dallas’ frustration. Steven Lenhart bagged a late brace, including a 95th-minute equalizer, as the San Jose Earthquakes came back twice in the second half to force a 3-3 tie with FC Dallas on Saturday. Lenhart headed home a ball flicked on by Alan Gordon, from a cross by Justin Morrow, to keep San Jose’s unbeaten streak at Buck Shaw Stadium intact. The Earthquakes have gone 11-0-6 at their primary venue since Aug. 13, 2011. San Jose (18-6-7) inched to three points ahead of Sporting Kansas City in the Supporters’ Shield standings. The Quakes need to hold on for three more matches to claim their first hardware since returning to the league as an expansion team in 2008. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...sj-v-dal/recap |

Recap:
Wondo hat trick paces Quakes to 4-1 win vs. Rapids ![]() COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Chris Wondolowski’s record-breaking hat trick helped the San Jose Earthquakes to an easy 4-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night while helping San Jose take a step closer to the Supporters' Shield on an unseasonably brisk evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Wondolowski’s three goals helped him break San Jose’s franchise record for all-time goals scored, and also helped the Earthquakes move six points above Sporting Kansas City for the Supporters Shield with two games to go, although Sporting plays Columbus Sunday afternoon and have three games left on their schedule. The win did, however, clinch the top spot in the Western Conference playoffs for San Jose. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...col-v-sj/recap |

Recap:
Wondo gets No. 26 as Quakes, Galaxy draw 2-2 ![]() SANTA CLARA, Calif. — One goal back, one game to play. San Jose Earthquakes striker Chris Wondolowski moved to within one goal of tying the MLS’ all-time single-season scoring mark, heading home his 26th of the season to force a 2-2 tie against the LA Galaxy on Sundayat Buck Shaw Stadium. Wondolowski, who also hit the post twice in as many minutes during the second half, needs two goals next weekend at Portland to beat the current mark of 27 goals, set by Tampa Bay’s Roy Lassiter in 1996. Wondolowski moved into a tie for second place on the league’s all-time scoring list, matching the 26 goals tallied by Stern John for Columbus in 1998 and Mamadou Diallo for Tampa Bay in 2000. Robbie Keane scored his 12th goal in 15 matches and Edson Buddle, making his first start since since May 26, nodded in his third of the season to stake the Galaxy to a pair of second-half leads. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...-sj-v-la/recap |
