Earthquakes defeat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Wednesday
Burling scores lone goal in victory over Spurs' development side ![]() The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Tottenham Hotspur's development side 1-0 on Wednesday at Spurs Lodge in Chigwell, London. Bobby Burling provided the lone goal in a match that saw the Earthquakes win their second match over a Barclays Premier League club in three days. Spurs had an opportunity early to grab the lead as Danny Rose was sent through on goal, but his effort was sent high and over the bar. Chris Wondolowski nearly helped give San Jose the advantage in the 35th minute, as he beat Andros Townsend near midfield and crossed to Quincy Amarikwa whose header was saved by Tottenham keeper, Ben Alnwick. The best chance of the half for either side came on a free kick a few minutes later, as Simon Elliott sent his free kick into the area, where it found defender Bobby Burling's head. His snap header was kept out by Alnwick yet again. The Quakes applied much of the pressure and finally broke through in the early moments of the second half, courtesy of Burling. Originally off of a corner, Elliott sent a ball in after an initial clearance and found Amarikwa, whose acrobatic header picked out Burling, who finished nicely. http://web.mlsnet.com/news/team_news....jsp&team=t110 |

San Jose get the news they were hoping for
![]() Quakes fans show in force as commission votes unanimously Bust out the champagne and the hardhats. The San Jose Earthquakes' proposed $60 million stadium will break ground this year after clearing the last legal hurdle, overcoming an appeal by six votes to none. More than 300 'Quakes fans showed up to the meeting, many of them turned away at the door. Check out the reaction as the votes became official. Quakes having a blast as they roar to top of table
![]() Exciting 5-3 win vs. D.C. United puts Quakes atop Supporters' Shield standings SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Chris Wondolowski said he hasn’t been on a team like this since the championship-winning seasons of the Houston Dynamo. Rafael Baca referenced the West Coast Conference-winning Loyola Marymount squad from his senior year. Justin Morrow hearkened back to his days winning Ohio state titles with Saint Ignatius High in Cleveland. Suffice to say, it’s been a long time since most any of the Earthquakes have been on a team that’s playing as well as San Jose are right now. After blitzing D.C. United 5-3 on Wednesday, the Quakes are 6-0-1 and have tied the longest unbeaten streak in MLS this year. At 7-1-1, they’re continuing what already rates as the franchise’s best-ever start to a season. http://www.sjearthquakes.com/news/20...roar-top-table |

Recap:
SJ 2, FCD 1 ![]() Goals from Chavez, Gordon, gritty defensive effort helps Quakes extend Supporters' Shield lead SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes made sure FC Dallas’ road renaissance was short-lived. Dallas came to California riding off their first road victory of the season, but San Jose used first-half goals from Marvin Chávez and Alan Gordon to put an end to that streak with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday at Buck Shaw Stadium. The Quakes survived a 94th-minute penalty-kick miss from defender Jair Benítez, who pushed his attempt just high and over the crossbar with a road point begging to be taken. http://www.sjearthquakes.com/news/20...n-vs-fc-dallas |

Lenhart's "fairy tale" goal fits the script for Earthquakes
![]() SANTA CLARA, Calif. – As the minutes wound down and the missed opportunities piled up, a sellout crowd at Buck Shaw Stadium knew that if the San Jose Earthquakes were going to find a last-minute equalizer against the Chicago Fire, it could only come from one man. With 2,500 fans wearing wigs based on his blond locks, Steven Lenhart returned from a four-game absence due to concussion symptoms and delivered a 98th-minute goal to give shorthanded San Jose a 1-1 tie. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...pt-earthquakes |

League-leading Earthquakes acquire Ballouchy from NYRB
![]() The league-leading San Jose Earthquakes have landed another weapon in the race for the Supporters' Shield. San Jose on Monday acquired veteran playmaking midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for a 2013 international spot and a conditional 2013 draft pick. “I’ve admired his play over the seven years he’s been in the league,” Earthquakes manager Frank Yallop said in a club statement. “He’s steadily improved since joining MLS. Mehdi’s a good player, a great addition to our team and we’re looking forward to having him here in San Jose.” http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...ballouchy-nyrb |

Four On The Floor
![]() Quakes hit three off free kicks in demolition of Goats SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Jose juggernaut continued to steamroll the competition on Sunday evening, as the Earthquakes thumped Chivas USA, 4-0, and retook lone possession of the top spot in the MLS Supporters Shield standings. MLS’ best attack showed its teeth early and often in front of a loud packed house at Buck Shaw Stadium, but they did it in a different way this time. Three direct freekicks, one from Victor Bernardez and two from Ramiro Corrales, did the majority of the damage against a clearly overmatched Chivas USA. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...sj-v-chv/recap |
