Reserve League: The Impact ties Toronto FC 2-2
Ubiparipovic and Sebrango on scoresheet for Montreal


MONTREAL, Quebec – The Montreal Impact tied Toronto FC 2-2 in Reserve League action on Saturday, at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.

TFC forward Keith Makubuya opened the scoring in the 10th minute when he one-timed a low cross, originating from the right flank, which was curled behind the Impact defence by midfielder Nick Soolsma.

The Impact tied it up on a similar play in the 49th minute, when half-time substitute and invitee Carl Haworth, an Impact 2012 Supplemental Draft pick, sent a cross in from the right side of the box. Midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic one-timed the ball past TFC goalkeeper Quillan Roberts, low-right.

New field at Stade Saputo ready for game day

Laying grass was a successful project

And the grass, cultivated and grown at the Gazonnière Bastien in Terrebonne for nine months, was even put in ahead of schedule, with just one week between sod and bulldozer to playing surface, culminating with the final placement of sod last Friday.

“This is one of my biggest successes in terms of speed. All that’s left for the next few days is to correct some of the imperfections of the surface using a 6,000 lb. asphalt compactor,” added Roch Poulin, whose experience in grass resurfacing for golf courses all across Quebec is vast. “And now we have two extra days to perfect the pitch as we are ahead of schedule.”

The league's newest stadium built originally for soccer opens in the newest MLS city, as the Montreal Impact play host to Seattle Sounders FC in the grand opening of Stade Saputo. The Impact return to action with a two-game losing streak, coming off a 3-2 loss at the Colorado Rapids. Sounders FC are riding a four-game winless streak of their own after a 1-1 draw at Chivas USA, though they have again reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup.

LOS ANGELES, California – The Montreal Impact (4-7-3) will play its first road game in four weeks this Saturday at 10:30pm (ET), against Chivas USA (4-7-3), at the Home Depot Center, in Los Angeles. The game will be broadcast live on TVA Sports, and will be available on illico web, illico Mobile and MLS Live.

This will be the second game in a series of five in 15 days in the month of June for the Impact. The club is coming off a 4-1 win on Saturday versus the Seattle Sounders FC in the opening game of the renovated Stade Saputo. Felipe, Justin Mapp, Andrew Wenger and Lamar Neagle scored in the match, while Patrice Bernier, who was named MLS Player of the Week with three assists. Impact reach verbal agreement with Nesta on 18-month deal


MONTREAL – Alessandro Nesta was at Impact training on Thursday. He was wearing team colors. He is not, however, officially a member of the squad just yet.

With the former AC Milan center back clad in Montreal blue and sharing a laugh with Marco Di Vaio in the background, sporting director Nick De Santis confirmed on Thursday that Nesta and Montreal had reached a verbal agreement on an 18-month deal. De Santis added that the club could make an official announcement in the coming hours once the paperwork is complete.

The Italian center back’s contract will not be stamped with the Designated Player tag, and the Impact are hopeful that it will become effective in time for Nesta to take part in his first full training session with the team on Friday.

Both parties came to an agreement in Miami last Saturday. Nesta, who had made the trip north to Stade Saputo the previous Wednesday for Marco Di Vaio’s MLS debut – a 3-0 loss to Toronto FC – entered talks with the Impact the next day.

Impact acquires a conditional draft pick from Real Salt Lake for forward Justin Braun

Forward returns to his native Salt Lake

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact acquired a conditional pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft on Wednesday from Real Salt Lake for forward Justin Braun. As per Major League Soccer and Impact policy, details of the deal were not disclosed.

“We appreciate Justin’s efforts on and off the field with our club and wish him luck with RSL,” said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch.

Bryan Arguez Joins FC Edmonton


FC Edmonton, struggling for wins and especially struggling for goals in the first half of the season, have obtained the services of defensive midfielder Bryan Arguez from the Montreal Impact. The 23-year-old was signed by Montreal last November but has yet to see any first team action with the club thus far in 2012, but has played with the Impact’s reserve squad.
