re: Montreal Impact FC (Impact de Montréal FC)

There was a nice surprise this morning as French defender Pascal Chimbonda joined the team in the third day of training camp.
However, the club and player himself didn't really make any comments on his arrival in Montreal, as he is still club-tied with Championship-side Doncaster Rovers. In fact, he just signed a short-term deal with the South Yorkshire club two weeks ago.

Montreal Impact head coach Jesse Marsch
happy with evaluation camp

Marsch was asked if one week was enough time to evaluate the players and their potential to play in North America’s premier league.

“You could argue that it is or that it isn’t,” the coach said. “But it’s a time restraint we have, and I don’t think for now it’s fair to bring guys in for certain situations for too long.

“But we’ve given them a chance, given them some ideas to understand what we think is important. Then we throw them out there to see if some of that can come out with higher level of training, games and whatnot.

“It can give you a window as to how they might be able to progress in the future,” Marsch added. “For the most part, I’ve watched all these players before they’ve come here, so it’s not like it’s the first time I’ve seen any of them. Now it’s trying to work closely with them and seeing how it goes.”

The Impact won’t officially become the 19th team in MLS until Jan. 1, and the club’s inaugural training camp is expected to begin in mid-January, eight weeks before the start of the regular season.

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced Friday that more than 5,000 season tickets have been sold for its inaugural season in Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2012.

With still five months remaining until the first home game, this is the largest number of season tickets sold by the club, since playing its inaugural season at Saputo Stadium in 2008.

Marsch praises Impact players after rough week in camp
Diouf scores twice as scrimmage caps telling week of workouts

Dealing with a few injured players, Marsch had to settle for a 10-a-side game for 70 minutes which saw Senegalese striker Mignane Diouf score both goals for the yellow team and Jeremiah White getting the only goal for the blue team.

“I thought it was a good effort,” Marsch said. “It looked more like a soccer game than some of the training sessions that were a little too wide open.”

Goalkeeper Bill Gaudette, who was back in a full week of training for the first time in four months due to an ankle injury, was satisfied with his own performance pulling three key saves during today’s game.

The next few weeks will be very busy for the coach and his staff as he prepares his team for an inaugural season in the MLS. Marsch, who went to London at the end of September, will be traveling to South America at the end of next week for 10 days, alongside sporting director Nick De Santis.

Both will be also need to be prepared for the Expansion Draft in November and January's SuperDraft.

Asked if he was looking to plan another training camp after the Expansion Draft, Marsch said that he will instead be looking at other smaller camps.

“There’s the potential for different evaluation camps set up by other people that we might be at," he said, "but nothing like this week’s camp."

UM02 (Ultras Montréal)

The group was created in 2002, after the re-opening of the Montréal Impact, when a group of fans decided to bring organized and vocal support to Impact games. Their slogan is "Toujours Fidèles" which is French for Always Faithful.

In 2012, the UM02 will primarily be located in section 132 with plans to expand throughout the whole west end stands

MLS releases details of Montreal expansion draft
Impact will select 10 players during draft on November 23

Head coach Jesse Marsch and the 2012 expansion Montreal Impact have signed two players to date: defender Nelson Rivas and midfielder Hassoun Camara. On Wednesday, they learned when they'll be able to get some teammates, as MLS announced the date and details of the 2012 MLS Expansion Draft.

The draft will take place on Wednesday, November 23, beginning at 2 pm ET.

As in past years, the expansion draft will last 10 rounds, meaning the Impact will select 10 players.

Current MLS clubs will be allowed to protect 11 players from their 2011 roster, though there are several categories of players who have special status. Generation adidas players and Homegrown Players on the team’s Off-budget Roster are automatically protected, without counting as one of the team’s 11 protected spots.

Designated Players do not have to be protected unless the player’s contract includes a no-trade clause.

Clubs must submit their protected roster to MLS on Monday, November 21.

MIDFIELDER SINISA UBIPARIPOVIC JOINS THE IMPACT

Sinisa Ubiparipovic Will Remain with Impact in MLS

Posted on Tue, Nov 1, 2011

Montreal Impact announced Tuesday the signing of midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic. The 28 year-old American midfielder, born in Bosnia-Herzegovina, becomes the fourth player to sign with the Impact for its inaugural season in MLS, after Colombian defender Nelson Rivas, French midfielder Hassoun Camara and American goalkeeper Evan Bush. Ubiparipovic becomes the third member of Montreal's 2011 NASL squad to sign with the team in MLS.

“I’m extremely happy to be joining the Impact family for Major League Soccer,” said Sinisa Ubiparipovic. “I am looking forward to helping this team make the transition into the new league, and also start working on winning championships.”

“As a club, we are excited to have come to terms with Sinisa,” said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. “With his MLS experience and success in the NASL this year, we think he will be an important piece moving forward for our move in MLS.”

In 2011, Ubiparipovic finished the season as the Impact’s leader in assists and third leading-scorer, registering three goals and four assists for 10 points in as many games, including eight as a starter. Ubiparipovic, who had joined the team on Aug. 2, was named the club’s Newcomer of the Year.
