Red Bulls must end their culture
of jettisoning quality North Americans ![]() By Michael Lewis BigAppleSoccer.com Editor http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/column...ticle_id=29202 Carson, Calif. -- New York Red Bulls supporters were reminded of their favorite soccer team's frailties, weaknesses and inconsistencies in the past two weeks. Do the names Dwayne De Rosario, Todd Dunivant, Brad Davis and Mike Magee ring a bell or two? They should. They once played and sometimes stood out for the Red Bulls, who for some reason were traded away by the Major League Soccer club. |

WAIVING GOODBYE
Red Bulls release 6, including Horwath, Rooney ![]() By Michael Lewis BigAppleSoccer.com Editor The Red Bulls started to clean house this week, only the players they released weren't necessarily the ones that will make their fans very happy. The Major League Soccer team on Wednesday waived six players who barely performed during the 2011 season. They were goalkeeper Alex Horwath, defender Mychel Jones, Tyler Lassiter and Theodore Schneider and midfielders Marcos Paullo and John Rooney, the younger brother of Manchester United and English standout striker Wayne Rooney. http://www.bigapplesoccer.com/teams/...ticle_id=29240 |

Report:
Red Bulls confirm Henry to Arsenal loan ![]() Report: NY GM Erik Solér confirms two-month loan to Gunners It’s a done deal: Thierry Henry will be heading back to Arsenal for two months. On Friday, Red Bulls GM Erik Solér, following earlier comments from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, confirmed to the New York Post that the 34-year-old French striker will suit up for the Gunners once more. It’s a move that would benefit everyone involved, Solér said. “[The loan deal was] the total package,” the Norwegian told the Post. “[…] We feel it’s a good honor for a guy who’s been with us 18 months. This is something he thought he wanted to do, and it’s easy to see. And on [the] sporting side, it’s better for him to train at Arsenal than if we turn something like that down. I couldn’t find a single reason to say no http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...y-arsenal-loan |

No Going Back
Chances of Henry staying at Arsenal? Zero, says Backe ![]() NO GOING BACK: The chances of Thierry Henry staying at Arsenal past his two-month loan? Zero, says Red Bulls coach Hans Backe in this Swedish interview. The French star's "highest goal" is to win an MLS Cup, Backe says, and he's not expecting Henry to start during his time back at the Emirates, either. New York Red Bulls Add Defender Jonathan Borrajo
24-year-old ex-RBNY Academy product should strengthen backline ![]() My Once a Metro colleague Dan Ferris wrote only yesterday about the number of openings left to be filled on the New York Red Bulls roster. There's one fewer opening as of this morning, after the club announced the signing of Jonathan Borrajo, an American right back from Clifton, New Jersey who most recently played for Hamarkameratene (or "Ham-Kam") in the Norwegian second division. He appeared briefly for the Red Bulls' reserve squad toward the tail end of the 2010 season, scoring a goal against D.C. United reserves in a 2-2 away draw in November http://www.onceametro.com/2012/1/5/2...nathan-borrajo |

Look Who's Back
Can Rafa's return help New York finally find their form? ![]() Can Rafa Márquez work his way back into fans’ and teammates’ good graces? On Sunday, New York’s controversial Mexican DP returns from the suspension earned by his misbehavior in the Red Bulls’ ill-tempered playoff series against LA last season, and his winless team could use some inspiration. Mediocre on the field and abrasive off it, Márquez was as controversial as any player in 2011, and RBNY’s home opener against the 2-0 Rapids would be a perfect time to let his skills do the talking. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...eading-weekend |

Bittersweet Victory
![]() Henry scores, injured as makeshift NY backline shuts out Revs HARRISON, N.J. – It took a patchwork backline to do it, but the New York Red Bulls finally got their first clean sheet of the season with a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena on Saturday. Thierry Henry scored his league-leading ninth goal of the campaign before leaving with a hamstring injury, but the strike proved to be all the Red Bulls needed. New York came out flying offensively, capped by Henry’s delicate lob over Matt Reis off a ball played over the top by right back Connor Lade in the seventh minute. The Homegrown defender was one of three young reserve players on an injury-decimated Red Bulls backline. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...-ny-v-ne/recap |

RBNY ride Lindpere goal to 1-0 win over Galaxy ![]() CARSON, Calif. – Joel Lindpere’s early goal held up as the undermanned New York Red Bulls beat the LA Galaxy by 1-0 at The Home Depot Center on Saturday. Lindpere converted one of New York’s scant few opportunities in the match, but the visitors did more than enough defensively to keep the hosts off the scoreboard. ![]() http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...-la-v-ny/recap |

Bill Gaudette could start for New York against Seattle
![]() Now, he could be starting for them. Traded from the LA Galaxy to the Red Bulls on Friday afternoon, Gaudette had his first training session with New York on Saturday morning and the 30-year-old participated fully despite having joined the team just hours prior. If that was not enough of a quick turnover for Gaudette, him starting in between the pipes on Sunday against the Seattle Sounders (4 pm ET, ESPN, LIVE CHAT on MLSsoccer.com) might be. Red Bulls incumbent Ryan Meara is questionable for the match with a knock, leaving Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe to have to mull over starting youngster Jeremy Vuolo or Gaudette should Meara not be deemed fit enough. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...gainst-seattle |

Henry lauds newcomers Le Toux, Gaudette on NY debuts
![]() HARRISON, N.J. – The past 48 hours have been a bit hectic for New York Red Bulls newcomers Sébastien Le Toux and Bill Gaudette, but that did not stop the duo from putting forth solid debuts for their new club. Le Toux and Gaudette earned their first starts for the Red Bulls on Sunday, two days after being traded from the Vancouver Whitecaps and LA Galaxy, respectively. And each played a significant role in New York managing to come away with a 2-2 draw against the Seattle Sounders. The Frenchman scored the equalizer for the Red Bulls after they had gone down 1-0 on strike from Álvaro Fernández. Gaudette made a handful of saves, including two spectacular blocks in the first half, to prevent the Red Bulls from falling behind Sigi Schmid’s men. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...ette-ny-debuts |
