Orlando, Harrisburg To Meet For Title
![]() USL PRO Championship to be decided on FOX Soccer TAMPA, Fla. – Orlando City will face the Harrisburg City Islanders for the USL PRO Championship after both sides advanced from their respective division finals this weekend. The Lions will host the contest at the Florida Citrus Bowl on Saturday night, with the game set to be aired by FOX Soccer at 7 p.m. EDT. The City Islanders were the first side to book their place in the championship game with a 2-1 victory against the Rochester Rhinos in the National Division Final on Friday night at Sahlen’s Stadium. In a hard-fought affair, first-half goals by Stephen Basso and David Schofield were enough for Harrisburg to advance to its first USL championship game since 2007, their only prior trip to a title game. The City Islanders won that contest in a penalty shootout, 8-7 against the Richmond Kickers after the two teams had played to a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime. The Lions reached the championship game with a 3-0 victory against the Kickers in the American Division Final on Saturday night in front of an electric crowd of 8,304 fans at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Luke Boden and Jerome Mecheck each scored in the first half for Orlando, which will be making its first appearance in a USL championship game. http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/556865.html |

Texas Dutch Lions Join USL PDL
Will add W-League franchise in 2013 ![]() TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues announced today that Texas Dutch Lions FC will join the PDL for the 2012 season and will operate a team in the W-League starting in 2013. The club is an affiliate partner of FC Twente, a former winner of the Dutch Premier League and KNVB Cup, and the Dutch Lions FC, who operate teams in USL PRO and the W-League as well as a youth academy in Dayton, Ohio. It is also the intent of the organization to acquire a USL PRO team to begin competition as early as the 2013 season. “We expect the Texas Dutch Lions will prove to be a model organization for USL” USL CEO Alec Papadakis said. “By establishing both PDL and W-League teams, the Texas Dutch Lions will give every youth soccer player in North Houston something to aspire to by offering an opportunity to play at the next level.” The club intends to develop top-level PDL and W-League teams while providing youth players from the North Houston communities of The Woodlands and Conroe with the opportunity to develop in a professional environment. The Texas Dutch Lions will also operate the Dutch Lions FC youth development program in Texas, based on the Dutch youth development philosophy promoted by FC Twente. The FC Twente youth academy was voted best academy in Holland in 2007 and 2008, while the professional club captured the Dutch Premier League title in 2010 and the KNVB Cup in 2011. http://www.uslsoccer.com/home/580298.html |
