Recap:
Rolfe, MacDonald lead Fire past sinking Revs 2-1

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Behind goals from Chris Rolfe and Sherjill MacDonald, the Chicago Fire beat the New England Revolution 2-1 at Toyota Park on Saturday night and showed why the teams are heading in much different directions than they the last time they met two months ago.

The Fire’s two big-name midseason put the hosts ahead in the first half and on the way to their third consecutive win, while New England couldn’t muster more than one goal for the seventh time in what is now seven-game winless streak.

Recap: MacDonald brace the difference as Chicago down NY

HARRISON, N.J. – The Chicago Fire may have suffered an upset loss earlier in the week, but they responded in a big way on Saturday.

The Fire handed New York their second loss of the season at Red Bull Arena in a pivotal Eastern Conference clash on Saturday afternoon, with Sherjill MacDonald scoring a brace in a 2-0 Chicago victory. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Chicago that included a defeat to the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday and put them one step closer to reaching the postseason.

For New York, the loss saw them drop the season series to Chicago and it put a dent in their hopes of reaching the postseason. The Red Bulls are now fourth in the tight Eastern Conference as DC United topped Toronto FC earlier in the day.

A Free Man
Former Crew midfielder reveals he's gay, leaving soccer

Klopas: Fire still want Rogers

In a revealing and personal blog post written in the early hours of the morning in London on Friday, former Columbus Crew midfielder Robbie Rogers announced that he’s gay and that he’s stepping away from professional soccer.

The 25 year-old Rogers, who played for the Crew from 2007-11 before unsuccessfully trying his hand with English sides Leeds United and Stevenage, writes that he “could not be happier” with his decision, and that now he is a “free man” with a new lease on life.

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Earlier Friday, midfielder Robbie Rogers announced on his website that he was stepping away from the game of soccer, beginning a new chapter of his life after announcing that he is gay.

Last month, the Chicago Fire acquired the 25-year-old midfielder’s MLS rights as part of the trade from Columbus which brought midfielder Dilly Duka to the Men in Red.

Since the trade, Fire head coach Frank Klopas said he had reached out to Rogers to discuss what his plans were but the two didn’t connect.

Reached for comment Friday, Klopas said his opinion of the former U.S. international hadn’t changed.

“Yesterday I thought he was a very good player and I still think that today. Should Robbie want to return to the game, we would still be open to him being part of the Fire.”

Re: Da Chicago Fire

New Chicago Fire attacker Mike Magee finally gets home:
"I have to cut the cord with LA"

Ever since last week's trade between the LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire that saw Robbie Rogers join the Galaxy in exchange for Mike Magee, observers have wondered why exactly the Galaxy would give up their then-leading scorer and one of the most clutch playoff goalscorers in MLS history.

A letter to the fans from Magee, a Chicago native, didn't even fully convince some who felt that the Galaxy gave up too much and might have been forced into the deal by the league and the unique circumstances surrounding Robbie Rogers.

On Monday, after training for the first time with the Fire, Magee set the record as straight as possible as to why he has returned home.

“It’s been on my mind pretty much since I left," he said. "I tried to get back [here] a couple times in the past and then I think throughout the process with Robbie Rogers, that whole saga with him trying to get to LA, it crept in my mind that somebody had to go to Chicago. And I raised my hand."
