RSL nab ex-Crew midfielder with sole MLS Waiver pick

NEW YORK -- Cole Grossman is headed west.

The second-year midfielder released by the Columbus Crew was selected by Real Salt Lake in the MLS Waiver Draft held on Monday. He was the only player selected in the draft.

Grossman, 23, was originally drafted by the Crew in the 2nd round of the 2011 SuperDraft. In two seasons at Crew Stadium, the 6-foot attack-minded midfielder made 10 league appearances, notching one goal, in a 2-2 draw away to the Houston Dynamo on August 19, 2012.

Before signing with Columbus, Grossman enjoyed a standout careeer at Duke University, scoring 25 goals and posting 24 assists in 70 career matches.
