Whats realistic??
Before the draft, I thought that Bonzi and Outlaw would be used as trade bait because of their expiring deals. However, I am surprised that we did not pick up any big men in the draft, and stockpiled more talent. I think Burks and Emmett were great picks, but it definitely means that one pg and at least one of our sg or sf will be gone in some kind of trade for a big guy. Amonst our guards and sf's, i think the most likely to be gone are:
One of
Bonzi: Expiring contract
Dahntay Jones: No room to keep him
One of:
Earl Watson: Was unhappy last year, and last year of contract
Troy Bell: No room to keep him
Jason Williams and Mike Miller I believe are bad contracts and nobody would take them. I think Posey is definitely untouchable and Battier because of his popularity would not be traded. Emmett and Burks are definitely keepers, plus they will be playing for cheap. We have already lost Theron, who played some 3/4 and I think we wont match anything above the MLE for Stromile. That means our guards will be traded for some kind of center / pf combination.
Dampier is definitely a possibility, but with Speedy and Van Exel, I believe they dont need a pg. They could definitely use Bonzi but at this point it is all speculation. I cant think of any other big guy that Jerry West would trade for other than Shaq or Dampier, unless he can swing something for a few other prominent names. But I am definitely looking forward to what direction the Grizz will move this summer. They have to definitely improve from last year and I think the last thing they would want to do would be make a lateral move. So I think something exciting is going to happen soon. Lets hope for the best! What do you think?
