Any body has any idea whats happening with Stro? The way this crazy off season has been going, it is surprising that his name has not popped up with a big offer sheet. The only thing I heard is that the grizzlies have said they will match any offer sheet for him. I would think a team like Atlanta would be ready to offer tons of money to him now that they are out of the K-Mart sweepstakes. How much do you think the Grizz match him upto? I dont think he is worth more than 5-6m assuming Pau is ready for his big bucks and will be with the Grizz.

Stro's value depends on two things. Whether he is ready to go to the Forum and play every night and whether he can do it without mental lapses. Stro has more ability than anybody on the Grizzlies' roster but he doesn't have a very high basketball IQ and he isn't the most competitive player on the squad. These are the things that hurt his value. With his natural ability, how can Pau start in front of him. The NBA is about gladitors. Does Stro have that mindset. I think he is a role player because he has the abilities to change a game, if he shows up and understands what needs to be done.

If I am Stro, I take a one year tender from the Grizz and become an un-restricted FA. Don't get locked into a contract, that you can never get from out under, because you are playing behind a better player in Gasol.

Be a back-up one more year and then fly the coup, I say. Let's hope his agent is smart enough to tell him that. I just hope the Cardinal signing means less minutes for Bo Outlaw.

Pau starts over Stro because it was given to him when Stro was hurt. Stro is inconsistent because the entire time he has been a Grizzly, his role has been inconsistent, his minutes have been inconsistent, and his position has been inconsistent.

Jerry West's reluctance to deal Stro for Dampier and his willingness to match any offer for Stro tells me alot.

I don't disagree with anything that you say there MemphisX. I'm saying that he is in the unfortunate position of not being the starting PF, plays out of position at center a lot. He needs to have developed his game in order to perform in the position that he is getting playing time and used it to show that he is a competitor (competing for a starting spot) and not just a phenomenal athlete.

Ben Wallace has set the example for what he could have done over the past three years with his god-given ability. Does that not suggest that his appetite for competition is a little weak? If he were harder (as in tougher) player, he should be the ideal partner for Pau in the paint.

There's nothing to say that he won't become that partner in time. But the question is his value. Jerry's saying that he has the potential to produce on the court in the game night in and night out by stating that the franchise will match any offer that's reasonable. An unreasonable offer, if someone wants to get silly with the owner's money, won't be matched because he isn't there (producing night in and night out). A lot of people are spending big money on potential but West has stated that is building to win now.

Consider Stro turned down a 3 year $20M extension last year. The offer suggests that Jerry thought that was his worth last year. Not 5 years because Stro may not reach his potential but if he did he would be in a position to negotiate a bigger contract.

I am not saying Stomile is worth less than Cardinal. Maybe Cardinal was just overpaid. Just read on ESPN that the Grizz have offered Battier and Lorenzen for Dampier but are not willing to offer Stromile.
