Re: Well, now we can have Atkins on the cheap...
My guess is Chucky wants to play and win. He can do that here.

Re: Well, now we can have Atkins on the cheap...
The Knicks made an inquiry into PG Chucky Atkins, bought out by the Wizards yesterday. However, sources said he'll be signing with Memphis in a prearranged deal. Like the Knicks, Memphis was searching for a backup PG."

Chucky Atkins to Memphis
http://www.hoopshype.com/rumors
Seems like a matter of time.
Interesting rumors about Brian Cardinal in there also, although I wonder how many of them even got off the ground.

I think the Brian Cardinal deal is a case of the lazy writer reading hoopshype and getting the rumors twisted around *** backwards. No way anybody takes Brian Cardinal until he plays better, gets healthy, and contract is expiring.

Re: Chucky Atkins to Memphis
Solid addition...but don't expect any defense out of him.
Offensive punch off the bench though.

Thanks for the post.
If we could combine Atkins' shooting with Burks' defense, we'd have a very suitable backup for the team. Unfortunately, we could play the "mad scientist" game with a lot of our players.

Agreed, I don't see Cardinal getting dealt in a straight-up deal.
Any trade involving Watson just isn't believable to me. And I highly doubt we'd trade Cardinal for Blount. Management is too high on Brian for that, and Blount's not even an upgrade from Wright in any areas we could use.

Re: Chucky Atkins to Memphis
Atkins is needed to keep us at status quo. That is all. He is not an upgrade. He just keeps us in 4-6 territory.

Re: Chucky Atkins to Memphis
not sure why the Grizz would want to mess with Atkins...doesn't really fit their defensive minded motto....yes he can score and all but I just don't see it being a acquisition making a big difference...

Damon Stoudamire isn't necessarily a good defender either, but our team defense makes him look better than he is (or, well, was). Since Chucky's a crummy-studio-apartment-owner's version of Damon, he might be able to get by. I hope...I hope...I hope...
So long as he can spell Bobby for about 20 mpg and stretch the defense enough that Pau isn't taking on two or three guys all night, I'm happy to have him. If our guards can't shoot, then we're basically playing four-on-five on that side of the court.
