Not much, really. We're in the Top 10 in the league in total payroll, and our owner (probably rightfully) doesn't want to spend any more money.

We have the MLE if we want to use it, but with MLE-sized longterm contracts like Brian Cardinal, Damon Stoudamire, Shane Battier and Mike Miller (larger than the MLE), I don't think we're going to be giving out a four or five year deal for anyone.

We just need to make trades, which our President of BO absolutely refuses to do if he has to give up any of our best seven or eight players. Kind of a problem...

My advice is to blow it up and start over. This "core" is not a good core. You can't build a championship squad on a foundation of three players that shrink in the playoffs. You can't build a defense oriented squad out of a team without rebounding. You can't build a running team without scorers and penetrators. There is just enough here to squeeze into the playoffs because we play hard every night. Anyone who sees anything (besides Gasol) worth building on must be looking at a different roster. If I were Jerry West, I would do everything in my power to purge the cap of Cardinal, Miller, Battier, and Soudamire and just start over. I am no longer in favor of bringing in Iverson because he is simply to old. I just think that now it is time to take a step back to take two steps forward.
