Idiot Memphians protesting trade!!
I'v been readin alot of the write in comments in the local newspaper about the Rudy Gay - Battier trade, and almost all of the comments were really really negative. People were saying it was a bad move on West's part and that we lost the face of the franchise.
I have always felt like people were so wrapped up on focusing on how great of an actual person Battier was that it kept most people from recognizing how mediocre a basketball player he actually is.
People were talking about not renewing season tickets, and just stopping being a fan altogether, both which are retarded.
It kinda makes me ashamed to live in the city.

It was a bad trade. Battier is a good basketball player. nothing mediocre about it.

bad trade for the rockets or the grizzlies.
It is a good trade for the grizz, shocks me to think people are actually protesting it.
Hopefully its rescinded and we keep gay. ( ideal homeristic situation)

Memphis has some really knowledgable fans and then some who are way too sentimental. The latter of which are the kind of people who call into the 560AM shows. They don't have much of a working knowledge of the sport and what it takes to build a truly successful team - they're too interested in going to watch the "old, familiar faces."

Re: Idiot Memphians protesting trade!!
I remember going to game against the Lakers this past season. LA wa in a funk and I knew that we were going handle them. While the teams were going through warm ups and stretching, I couldn't find Shane. When I noticed him on the sideline in street clothes, something just told me that the Grizz were in trouble. True enough we lost the game and I was beating myself saying, "If we woulda had Shane..."
Now for every one of those type instances, there are the games against Dallas where Shane is getting beat off the dribble. There are the games against SA where Bowen is all over the place because he can lay off Battier.
To sum it up Shane is a great person with average basketball skills. I will miss him because he was a calming influence on the court, but I agree with the trade because Gay brings more to the table skill wise than Battier could hope.

I think Rudy will be the spark the team needed to win a playoff game. If Rudy has a exceptional season like fellow Uconn player Charlie Villanueva he will be loved by fans.

Renaldo Balkman is a man on a mission. To prove the doubters wrong.

Hopefully Fratello will actually play Gay and not be a !@!##bag like he was with Warrick. From what Ive heard and seen Fratello is a stubborn coach who doesnt like to play rookies. This may be an exception. Hopefully

HAHA i thought all the mephis folk though that they had pulled off daylight robbery and now to hear that some are complaining it could be a good sign for rox fans, we could be getting Battier without knowing just how good he is. it would be a shame for you guys if battier turns out to be the grizzlies missing piece next year and houstons final piece to winning a championship

Battier is known by a large number of Grizzlies fans - probably the majority - as the face of the franchise. He was Memphis' first-ever draft pick and an extremely active member in the Memphis community. Pro athletes normally aren't ever as involved with the fans as Shane was with Grizz fans.
So of course people are going to be upset. I'm not happy seeing Shane go either. He's a good role player and a better person. But I understand like others do that it will make us a better, more exciting team for the future.
