Trade Hakim Warrick while people still think he has value

Just started going through all this in my head while reading the MEM/MIL trade proposal thread.

He's not really as good as people perceive him to be.

Offensively, he has one move, which is trying to dunk over three people. If not that, then it's an ultra-predictable back-to-the-basket turnaround fadeaway that hardly ever goes in.

http://www.82games.com/0506/05MEM10A.HTM

He shoots 26 percent on jumpshots, gets blocked on a quarter of his close shots and is assisted on 84 percent of his dunks. He has a Roland rating of -9.8, the worst on the team aside from Roberson, who rarely played anything but garbage minutes.

He turns the ball over constantly because he has no handle, doesn't know how to pass, is an average/below average rebounder and shot blocker for a 4. If that's not the definition of a tweener forward, then I don't know what is.

He's athletic, but he's not an "elite-level" athlete. And he's 24 years old, which means he's not going to improve any more than, say, Dahntay Jones has improved since he's been in the league. Marginal improvement and not much more else.

We all saw Warrick as a great pick at No. 19 last season. As it turns out, there are a few guys after him who will turn out to be better NBA players. Hakim remains a decent "value" selection in retrospect, but he doesn't have the tools to become a starter in this league. Trade him in a package before people figure this out.

He posted a good summer league game tonight with 21 points. He did the same thing in Syracuse when he was playing with guys with similar size and ability. Hopefully, management sees the summer league as an opportunity to showcase him, bulk up his statistics and package him off for a player can really help us.

I came to this realization also. Zero ball skills, can't defend a position, zero range, and not a good shot blocker despite his hops. I hope he puts up good numbers in summer league but now I am understanding why he fell during the draft. This was a lesson learned about the draft....high profile players from high profile programs with high profile coaches that fall out of the lottery unexpectedly usually have big holes in their games (see Marcus Williams). Ryan Gomes would have been a much better selection in hindsight.

Mike Miller+Hakim Warrick for an expiring contract and prospect or draft pick.

Joe Smith and Milwaukee's 2007 1st rounder.

Ruben Patterson and Denver's 2007 1st rounder.

James Posey and Dorell Wright.

I don't value Mike Miller that much due to his contract and playoff performances. I think this is his last week as a Grizz.

Ryan Gomes is going to turn into a fantastic "glue" player. Boston is a bunch of geniuses for getting him to sign a three-year minimum contract.

That's not to say I didn't love the Warrick pick on Draft Night 05. But right now, he looks like a more-seasoned, less-versatile Travis Outlaw, and he probably isn't going to get too much better.

I've been playing on the Bulls board tonight. A couple of them would do Mike Miller for PJ Brown + a second rounder. We lose even more scoring, but I'd still love a deal like that. PJ Brown's criminally underrated on BBB and his conditioning/iron man status is such that he could still play for a few more years.
