So is Gay the man in a few years?
I mean, I've heard both ends of the argument. We all know he's talented, but supposedly he doens't have the work ethic or drive that's desired of a blue chip talent. Whatever.
Do you Memphis fans think Rudy Gay is the building block for you guys in the future, or just a nice piece?

I think this can be answered a little easier after his first season

There's a difference between predicting his stats and just having expectations. You think teams draft players just for the next season?

Re: So is Gay the man in a few years?
First let's clear this up...Rudy Gay does not have work ethic or drive questions. People/critics just feel he is not offensively aggressive enough. There is a big difference. He deferred to the upperclassmen he played with at UCONN...maybe to a fault.
I think Rudy Gay is going to be a stud early. He is coming into a situation where he has an established All Star in the post and veteran guards. Good situation. I hope we open up playing time and let him learn on the job. His development as a #1 perimeter option is more important to the future of this franchise than squeaking into the playoffs. I also wouldn't mind dipping into the lottery for a season and clearing some capspace.

Everyone in Memphis will have no choice but to don "Gay" jerseys. Interestingly enough, homophobia will invariably decrease as his popularity rises. Great move for Memphis.

Check out the Memphis RealGM board, if you haven't already. A lot of posters there are thinking Gay is three years away from even cracking the rotation.
Like this guy's 17 years old or something. He just led the top college team in the nation in scoring as a sophomore. Where do these fans come from?

I am for trading Mike Miller just to take temptation away from our lame duck coach. Gay is ready to play NOW. I think in three years he will be our best player and that is with Gasol continuing to improve. We were real lucky.
