"Memphis, Tennessee, August 1, 2006 – Memphis Grizzlies President of Basketball Operations Jerry West announced today that the team has signed a one-year contract with free agent guard Lorinza ‘Junior’ Harrington. Per team policy, financial terms of the deal were not released.

“Junior made a tremendous impression on us during the summer,” said West. “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with him.”

Harrington, 6-4, 190 pounds, most recently played with the Grizzlies’ 2006 Summer Pro-Am League team where he averaged 10.0 points, 3.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds in seven games (2 starts). Last season, he played for Pamesa Valencia in Spain, averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

A former All-American at Wingate University, Harrington was signed as a rookie free agent with the Denver Nuggets on July 18, 2002. He appeared in all 82 games (51 starts) for Denver in 2002-03 and averaged 5.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists before being waived on October 27, 2003.

He spent the 2003-04 season with Azovmash Mariupol in the Ukraine, before signing as a free agent with the New Orleans Hornets on September 30, 2004. He appeared in 29 games (seven starts) for the Hornets in 2004-05 and averaged 5.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists before being waived on January 21, 2005. He has 111 games of NBA experience with Denver and New Orleans, with career averages of 5.2 points, 2.8 rebounds ad 3.1 assists. "
