Gasol injured in WC semifinals
...and the Oden watch begins

"I am not sure what the injury is. He hurt his foot and it may be the same injury he had in the season."
Gasol, who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, was slowed at the end of the regular season with a sore left foot, but did return for the playoffs. Hernandez said Gasol would have tests on Saturday, but he didn't sound very optimistic.

Pau will be a starter in Grizz's first game of the season, he won't be sitting. But anyway if it helps to get another future star in next year's draft just let Pau recover as much as he should or even more 
However is a great dissapointment for us to not to have him in the final and lead our NT to win. Just hope the teammates can offer him the gold, cause Pau really deserves it. I just felt so bad to see him cry  |

“I spun,” Gasol said, “and felt a sharp pain in my left foot so I went down.”
Gasol said results of an MRI and X-rays won’t be known until Saturday morning.
Griz coach Mike Fratello, who set an alarm and awakened to watch USA and Spain, said Friday morning that the team was awaiting word from Gasol’s agent, Arn Tellem.
When told that the organization and fans are worried and anxious, Gasol said: “It’s understandable.”

This doesn't sound one little bit good.
Sounds like a ligament. It would have to be for Pau to not play in the final. You'd just about have to kill him to keep him out.

Ouch, that sucks... just when Pau's all ready for a breakout season and more importantly for him a chance at the gold medal, this happens. Hope this isn't anything serious.

According to rotoworld, this is the same foot that Gasol fractured in 2004, causing him to miss most of the season. I would guess that the chance that the two injuries are related are negligible, but thought I'd repeat it.

Poor Pau.
I don't really want him to force anything. Nobody wants him to worsen his injury and leave the Grizz without their go-to-guy...
Hopefully Calderon, Rudy, Sergio, Garbajosa and the rest will make it up for him and beat those Greeks
P.S: FIBA should give him the MVP anyway

He was awesome in the WC.I didn't realize it was his foot,but I was wondering if it wasn't worse than a twisted ankle when his brother and some other guy had to help him off the court.

Pau Gasol, Spain's leading scorer and rebounder, has a partial fracture in his left foot and will not play in the FIBA World Championship gold medal game against Greece on Sunday night, according to team officials.
In a release on the team's website Saturday night, Gasol, who was injured in the final minutes of the semifinal victory over Argentina, has "a partial fracture to the base of the fifth metatarsal in his left foot, so he will be unavailable" for the championship game.
no word on long term ramifications of this.

seems the prognosis is 6-12 weeks depending upon if he has surgery. I think that is being optimistic considering this is the same foot he has had a problem with the last 2 seasons.

And this is why Gasol's last International performance will be in the Olympics. Too much risk for a person who is trying to capitalize on his talent and make that money.
