Hakim Warrick.
Will he improve? Your thoughts. I'd love to see him and Gay running the court together jumping out of the stadium.

Re: Hakim Warrick.
I think that Warrick can bring the biggest part of what Stromile Swift "can" bring... The other part (great shotblocking, I leave it for Alexander Johnson)... I really believe that with Hakim and Johnson, there is no need of Stro in this team...

Re: Hakim Warrick.
Hakim has two offensive moves.
1) Post-up, throw one pump fake and then try and dunk it on two or three people from a standstill position six feet away from the basket.
2) Catch the ball 12-15 feet away from the basket, throw one pump fake and then do a turnaround fadeaway that misses half the time and gets blocked another quarter of the time.
I don't see him improving drastically. He seems like a hard worker and a good kid, but he's 24 years old. He also has some of the worst ball skills in the league, and any time he puts it on the floor, it's a turnover waiting to happen. Without question, he has hops and knows how to dunk, but he can't put the ball on the floor in order to get to the basket, and he's too small/wiry to be able to create enough space down in the paint.
I don't know what he'd be like in transition because Mike Fratello is the coach.
Definitely a flawed player, especially in our molasses offensive system.

Re: Hakim Warrick.
i could see it. he's been improving since his 1st year at college (of course i'd know that, i follow syracuse like a stalker, so trust me on this).
and the generalizations on what hakim can do are just terribly wrong. he actually could shoot pretty good in college, and used the jump hook, as well. he can pass good out of the post every once in a while. i wanna see how he gets used to being in the pros, i think he just might pan out.
he'll improve. watch. i'm not alone on this: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/s...a2010_breakout

Pau Gasol's injury in the World Championship was unfortunate for both him and Memphis, as he truly is one of the NBA's top pivotmen. But it does open a door for Warrick, as someone has to fill the 39 minutes per game Pau played last year. Combine that with the serious work Warrick put in this summer on his overall game and you have a recipe for a much better stat line this season.
Warrick spent much of the summer training with former college teammate Carmelo Anthony in Denver, and we all saw how well 'Melo played for Team USA. I've heard reports from other people in the gym that Warrick was terrific in those workouts as well. He was solid in the summer league, too, averaging 17 and 5.
His athleticism and intensity will fit in nicely with Memphis' effort to get more athletic on the floor, and his enhanced offensive skills will allow him to play some 3 as well. Improvement on the defensive end is still needed, and if he shows signs of progress there, he'll get all of the playing time he wants. NBA arenas better dust off their replacement rims. Here comes Hakim!!

Re: Hakim Warrick.
With Pau's injury, hakim must show what he can do with more minutes on court.
If he doesn't improve his play enough, he could be traded away next summer, or this season if Pau recovery goes fast.
IMO this is the key session for him.

Re: Hakim Warrick.
hakim worked out with melo this off season in denver.... warrick is a young guy adjusting to the nba.... he struggled his first year... and he didnt play a whole lot. supposedly he had good workouts.. and he showcased more than two moves when he excelled in the summer league. warrick is going to get the opportunity to play... and he will show up

Where was the marked improvement from his second year to his fourth year .. where exactly was it?????? He worked hard but really showed limited improvement from a soph to a senior. And he showed NO improvement from junior to senior.
Don't quote PPG either, because that is flawed because of Melo's presence in his second year.
Jump hook?????
Passing out ??????
Jump Shot????
Where.. doing these things a few times does not demonstrate skill in that area.
I love Hakim - underrated component of our national championship team. But damn, take off the beer goggles. I'm not sure what your watching.

Re: Hakim Warrick.
Warrick is an energy guy....if you have some skilled scorers around him(Miller, Gasol when healthy, Damon) then all he needs to do is play tough "D" and finish easy hoops. As he gets in more time his game smarts will improve and he will be the role player that your team needs. Lets remember that Hakim is not going to turn into an Allstar, but can still be a very good 6th-8th man on a roster.

the marked improvement was shown in his games, which i watched. if you watched as well, you would have seen this. by his senior year, he was making 3's. he was actually handling the ball up the court. he passed out to gmac frequently, who would hit a 3 every once in a while. i was actually at games watching him play, watching him do these things. in the dome. i watched him play. watched him in person. with my own ****ing eyes.
why don't you understand this?
