Grizz ready for camp
To whet Griz fans' appetites, we offer a starting five
Quote:
1. Rudy Gay: To start or not start
Essentially, Gay replaces Shane Battier. The Griz traded away the face of the franchise for the chance to acquire Gay (selected eighth overall) from Houston. By all accounts, he's a more skilled offensive player than Battier. So why not start Gay? Griz coach Mike Fratello will say that Gay must earn his way. In today's NBA, though, the young stars develop on the court by being allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. Gay's foibles could easily be absorbed by the experienced cast around him. Playing on the floor with savvy veterans and proven winners such as Stoudamire and Eddie Jones could allow Gay to gain early confidence and accelerate the NBA learning curve. Gay's shortcomings likely will come on defense. But he's talented enough to provide another deft scoring option and his length screams rebounding.
