Re: Gasol to Bulls trade proposal
If we were to trade Pau Gasol, for me to accept it as a fan, it must include:
A pre-draft lotto Top 5 2007 draft pick unprotected
Two prospects OR a Ben Gordonish-type plus a lesser prospect
Large expiring contract
Take back Brian Cardinal and (as a bonus, but not a necessity) Damon Stoudamire
I firmly believe that if you give Gasol an All-Star caliber wing and get an Oden or a Durant or a Horford or a Noah, plus get a new coach, the team becomes a competitor, fans get excited and the franchise stops hemorrhaging money. We have the resources to do all those things, so I would not want to trade Gasol until the season is over.
If Gasol gets dealt, it's because we have an owner who doesn't want to be an owner, a coach who can't coach, a GM/President of Basketball Ops who doesn't make moves until it's a year too late and/or isn't allowed to make moves and numbskull fans who don't have the prestige in any sport to act as uppity and privileged as they do.
If we were to get:
PG Lowry
SG Gordon
SF Gay
PF Warrick
C Oden
With Durant/Horford/Noah, Sefolosha (let's just say...), Miller (or whoever we trade him for - Maggette?), Stromile, Roberts, re-signed Dahntay Jones (on the cheap) off the bench (hypothetical Maggette would start obviously)...
I don't know if I could pass that up. That's just too much potential talent. Not to mention, we'd have healthy cap room with that kind of roster (not that it seems the new ownership would do anything with it). Of course, this is unlikely, since Oden/Durant are probably the consensus Top 2 picks right now. There are about 5-8 guys that may come out this year I'd be happy with though.
