Re: Now that free agency starts

The biggest need for the team is at the C position, the only player that i feel can help the grizzlies in the long run is darko milicic.

In 08 i doubt players like arenas, artest, oneal or garnett would want to come here even if we had enough money to sign them... and there won't be a lot of Centers available in that free agent class (mourning, diop and biedrins seems to be the best i guess)

This season darko put 8.0 ppg 5.5 rpg 1.1 apg 1.8 bpg in 23.9 MPG. He is an excellent shot blocker, that will help the grizzlies to start some fast breaks. He runs the court pretty well and is a very good passer for a big man. And he is just 22 years old, so he can keep improving alongside the other young grizzlies.

All his qualities will fit well under iavaroni's system imo. I think he wil be a 14-9-3-3 player as soon as next year or 2 years at most. And if dalembert, ilgauskas, murphy, dampier, kwame, foyle and brad miller all are making about 10m a year i think darko (being much younger and arguably already better) deserves them as well.

Re: Now that free agency starts

Memphis is one of the teams I don't see making a big splash into the free agency. Of course they have their needs, but with the position the franchise is in right now I don't think they overpay someone to sit on the bench like a team closer to gold would do. They will probably explore some trade ideas however.

Re: Now that free agency starts

A couple of possible trades:
Mike miller + filler for Nene
Cardinal for brendan Haywood
Mike miller + filler for Darko

I would prefer the trade for darko, nene is a little overpayed but he showed in the end of the regular season and in the playoffs that he is one of the best young big mans in the league. He did a great job on duncan vs the spurs.

If the nuggets feel that K-Mart can make a comeback they may do that trade. They are one of the worst shooting teams in the league and dont have a reliable SG, mike miller is a perfect fit for them. Camby-Kmart-Melo-Miller-Iverson. Sounds great for them if kmart stays healthy

The magic also could use some scoring and shooting from the SG position. They would have: Dwigt/Battie/Turkoglu/Miller/Nelson. If they dont get a SG this offseason they will have to start ariza or jj redick at SG.

Since we would be trading, we still would have our cap space. We could offer some money to Mo-pete or jason kapono:
Nene (or darko)
Gasol
Gay
MoPete
Conley

The other trade, cardinal for haywood is like a lateral move. Haywood seems to be a problematic cancer, but at least he can play C and is a capable rebounder and shot blocker. Their contracts expires in the same year and are making about the same money so it wouldn't hurt our cap position. And the wizards may be the one team willing to take on cardinal since haywood demanded a trade. Another option would be swift for haywood, but i would prefer to get rid of cardinal first.

Re: Now that free agency starts

I read that the Grizzlies have reached out to Anderson Varejao. He would be an ideal fit next to Gasol, and I would love to see what he can do with a starting job.
