Re: Chicago still want Gasol
I guess this is what you get when chris wallace is your GM. Every team in the league will try to rip us now.
By the way, good idea to make Nocioni your #1 target on free agency when you have 1 all star, 1 potential all star(gay), 1 still young and improving player (warrick) and 2 guys already making a lot of money (swift, cardinal) as your forwards, with no Center to show.

Where does Nocioni rank in terms of NBA small forwards? 25th? 30th?
He's a low-level NBA starter at his position, the deepest and most-easily replaceable position in basketball at the moment. He plays the same natural position as the guy we've labeled as our future. And he's in his prime.
Doesn't sound worth $40 million to me, but then again, I'm not the guy took Kedrick Brown in the lottery.

Re: Chicago still want Gasol
I agree with Rawse, small forwards are the easiest to find in the NBA because there are so many quality threes right now. Nocioni doesn't fill a need and it doesn't make sense to go after him if you want to have a fastbreaking team. Just save those bucks for the next summer when everyone knows in which direction the Grizzlies will be headed.

You realise Carlos was being sarcastic, right? (unless i'm just misunderstanding the tone of your reply, in which case ignore me)
You've gotta remember, when Shaq's only getting you Odom/Butler/Grant (and some picks), Allen's only getting Wally Sexyback, Delonte West and the #5, Allen Iverson was 2 first, Andre Miller and Joe Smith..
You just don't get return on 'star' players..
You're not gonna get half the Bulls starting lineup, or all of Atlanta's forwards..
Getting a solid young player, a good starter, a backup and a pick or 2 is a damn good deal.
In this case, it's maybe not the right deal.
But you're not gonna be getting Hinrich/Deng/Gordon (just a ludicrous example, first that sprang to mind)
'sides, by the sound of it Pax lives in a world of incoming calls only..

How well is the Knicks Starters vs NBA Team Starters? 60%? 50%? 40%? or are we waiting to see by being optimistic because we have a new additional player in the Starting lineup that we assume Stat sheet record says he is better with this Knick roster than the guy he is replacing?

Re: Chicago still want Gasol
Why does Memphis need to trade him? They have plenty of good young talent, a new coach, and an All-star bigman. They shouldn't be that far from the playoffs.
Conley
Miller
Gay
Warrick
Gasol
This trade doesn't help.

-Shaq was much older, with attitude problems, health concerns and the lakers were forced to trade him (and to a short list of teams)
-Ray allen: Older, playing SG (a position easier to fill)
-Iverson: Old, overpayed, attitude problems, is a SG on a PG body, problems sharing the ball, etc.
Gasol is younger, is a PF/C, is signed for less money a year than any the other guys, etc.

Re: Chicago still want Gasol
That's all true, but you're still not gonna get equal value.
Especially with Chris Wallace (sorry, couldn't resist..)
If Kobe Bryant gets moved, (let's say Chicago) do you really think the Lakers get Wallace/Deng/Gordon?
Again, there's the attitude issues.
Gasol isn't a ******** to teammates, doesn't complain about the number of shots he gets (hell, who else needs em?) and hasn't 'demanded' a trade.
But you're still not gonna get equal value.
If anything, him having a smaller contract makes it harder to get equal value (though you can always chuck in the Janitor to even it out a bit)

Yeah, I agreed with him...using my own sarcasm of course.

Shaq, Ray Allen, Iverson, etc were all on the wrong side of 30 when they were traded.
Also, with Gasol, you don't sense the same desperate, need-to- have-to-trade-this-guy vibe from the Grizzlies front office as you saw with the Lakers and Shaq or Philly and Iverson.

Rawse & MemphisX are knowledgeable Memphis fans. Do you guys expect playoffs?

With the current roster, I say no way Jose. Gasol's a guy who can turn a team with James Posey and Mike Miller as the main sidekicks into a 50-win playoff squad in the West. But Mike Conley (obviously), Rudy Gay and Tarence Kinsey are awfully inexperienced. The veterans have some experience - but they're awful.
Even if Memphis somehow snuck into the final spot, it'd be 0-16. Just watching teams like Golden State turn the dial up about 10 notches in the 2007 postseason, I just don't think we have anyone with the capability or mentality to do that. Maybe Kyle Lowry. With everyone else, I don't see that extra gear at all.
