Grizzlies sign Casey Jacobsen
Quote:
The Grizzlies finalized a deal Monday with sharpshooter Casey Jacobsen, a guard who last played in the NBA during the 2004-05 season when he split time with Phoenix and New Orleans.
An NBA source confirmed that Jacobsen was in town Monday to sign the contract and visit with Griz personnel. Jacobsen signed a one-year contract.
Jacobsen, 26, adds perimeter scoring the Griz sought in order to bolster their guard rotation. He came out of Stanford in 2002 and played 2 1/2 seasons with the Suns before being traded to the Hornets.

Well, the team isn't kidding when it says it wants to adopt a "launch it up" strategy.
Guarded optimism here, since Jacobsen couldn't hang in the league his first time around. Here's hoping he can add some shooting in limited minutes behind Miller/Gay/Kinsey.
I like him better than Dahntay, anyway...

He's the one that obliterated his wrist right? He was a decent gunner from when I saw it.

Is he the guy who played in Germany last season? How did he fare there? League superstar?

After playing for the TAU Vitoria of the Spanish ACB during the 2005-06 season, he signed a non-guaranteed contract with Houston, played in just 4 pre-season games and then was released before the 2006-07 season began. Jacobsen then moved to the Brose Baskets (Bamberg/Germany) of the Basketball Bundesliga, where he won the German Basketball Championship 2007 and got the Finals MVP Award.

You can never have too many shooters and with guys like Darko and Gasol he'll get the ball kicked out to him. Nice handle by the way.

Re: Grizzlies sign Casey Jacobsen
I have seen many times in the German league last season and he was probably one of three best players in the league. His role with the Grizzlies will be different of course, but he is a decent player, he can create his own shot, at least he could in Germany. He was more than a spot-up shooter, he has a solid midrange game, but he might with bigger guards again like he did the first time in the league.
I don't know if he fits well with the run and gun style since he had problems adapating in Phoenix. The team he played for in Germany played extremely slow, more like Detroit. Although he is a shooter, his game might be better suited for the halfcourt, but who knows.
