Grizzlies Impressing

Im likin the Grizz at the moment. Sure they may not win to many games, but you guys have a great young nucleus. Gasol is an All-Star calibre player. Rudy Gay is coming into his own this year - he's an offensive stud - plus he's attacking, not passive like rumoured coming outta UCONN. He needs to work on getting his teammates involved and on the boards, but that Battier trade is lookin like a no-brainer. That dunk on Scola was nasty...i loved it. Darko is startin to find his niche with this team, if he can be a double double guy for them - thats huge and only releases pressure from Pau. Conley and Lowry are both great young points - you just need another swingman (im not a big Mike Miller guy). A bench would also be good.

At any rate - there are reasons to smile in Grizz-land.

Looks like Rudy is learning how to score, but it's hard to consider him playing well when is grabbing only 3.7 rebounds and dishing out almost nothing.

He's been terrific. I'm not worried at all.

Darko's been great. Lowry's been great. Conley's a small project, but I like what I've seen.

Our other offseason acquisitions - Brown, Navarro, Jacobsen - have been huge busts, but I still hold out some hope for Navarro adjusting. He won't be that Sixth Man of the Year Candidate I was hoping for though. The other two are worthless.

Re: Grizzlies Impressing

The sad part (for Shane anyway) is that even Stromile Swift is practically outplaying him this season. Battier's always been about being "more valuable than his numbers," but he's ratcheting up career-lows in just about everything.

I just hope that the showcasing of Damon Stoudamire will come to an end in the next few weeks, the way he has been playing you can't really say that his stock has gotten higher than before.

Re: Grizzlies Impressing

I never liked that Battier trade for the Rockets. Yeah, he was a JVG guy - but guess what? JVG aint there nemore. Big mistake by the Rockets, huge steal by the Grizz. The rest of Rudy's game will come around - he was a solid rebounder and passer in college, so that part of his game will get there. Hes real exciting though, great player to watch.

Stoudamire should be shown the 12th man seat on the bench. Lowry deserves the start at the moment, hes playin terrific ball. Conley to be 6th man - get the ball moving and get the offense flowin.

Darko has been impressive, sure hes not Melo, Bron,Wade or Bosh but its not easy to find a good center...and hes definately proving he can be a starting center for the next 10 years in the NBA.

Re: Grizzlies Impressing

I didn't expect Darko to be producing the way he is this fast; it's nice to see him finally get an opportunity like this with no BS. I think this is only the beginning for him; I think he has 17ppg, 11rpg, and 2.5bpg potential remaining.

I've been surprised with Conley's lack of p/t. I don't know if it's from subpar play or they're intentionally limiting his minutes. PG is supposed to be the hardest NBA transition, but I still think he's not getting enough. Are they keeping Damon around as a mentor? You'd think he'd have some value with a playoff team. I imagine he's gone next summer.

Regardless, I think the Grizz are in great shape with current coaching and management. Their books are relatively lean, with Stro and Damon only having one year left after this. Cardinal at least is a decent per/min guy and plays hard; still pretty well overpaid, though.

I like how they'll be positioned in the next draft. There'll be a good deal of intriguing talent available. As far as bigs, if they wanna stay quick, Greene and Arthur should be there. If they want a banger, Jordan, Love, Thabeet, and a Lopez or two may be available. Batum could be interesting for them as well. What better team for him than the one that has the two guys he's most often compared to (Miller and Gay)?

Re: Grizzlies Impressing

C- Darko
PF- Gasol
SF- Gay
SG- Miller
PG - Lowry

If they were in the east, they'd be the 6th seed probably

Re: Grizzlies Impressing

More fun team to watch than last year. They have a chance to make the playoffs, hopefully they can do it and get the city back fully behind them.

Re: Grizzlies Impressing

Conley's minutes have been limited by Iavaroni.

Rudy Gay is wayyyyyy ahead of schedule.

Lowry is progressing well considering he only played 10 games last season.

I hope Darko is on the Chris Kaman learning curve. He has been good and pretty consistent in his play and progression.

I still see Gasol getting traded.

Is Pau Pau hurt? Unhappy?

Looking at his numbers, they aren't that close to his career averages.
