Portland- Memphis
I really like some of the pieces that you guys have espeially Gay. I know that one of our needs will be to get a quality PG. Nate wants to play BROY at the point and it seems to work out well for us. Next year besides adding G.O. we are adding The 2 time euro player of the year in Rudy Fernandez. It will be interesting to watch Team Spain in the olympics. I think the final will be Spain V USA. Should be plenty of NBA talent on the floor
So, to my question to Memphis fans. I think Memphis is where Portland was 4 years ago. Although i think Memphis has more assets than Portland did years ago. It also looks like J Critt is a keeper. Is J Critt a better player than M Conley ? Just asking because i haven't been following your team as much as i would like....
It seems starting Gay/ Miller/ Milicic you guys are losing out on Rebounding, Defense to name a few things. Here is a trade i've been kicking around.
Portland sends Frye, Jack, Webster, #13-#32-#35 and future 1st round pick, Paul Allen's cash
Memphis sends out Conley, Miller, filler (Cardinal ?)
MG
C-MILICIC
F-FRYE
F-GAY
G-CRITT
G-JACK
PTB
C-ODEN
F-LMA
F-MILLER
G-CONLEY
G-ROY
Memphis could add a lot of talent through the draft and FA.
Portland would be consolidating talent plus getting time for Fernandez and Outlaw.
Now i'm sure Memphis fans would want TLAW in the deal, but i think long-term Frye would be a better fit as he can play C and PF. I think he would flourish in Memphis and in Portland he is headed to the abyss playing behind LaMarcus A. They play similar gamess. Also i think Martel's potential is scary. He could end up being a great replacement to Miller at 10 years younger.
Would Memphis do this ?
Thanks

Re: Portland- Memphis
Conley has been playing better than Critt overall, but Critt has also has looked good when he's been given a good amount of playing time from what I've seen. I'm not really sold on Frye, and Jack I don't want to see in Memphis at all. If a deal with Portland was to happen I would want Travis Outlaw in return, I'd love him to be coming off the bench for us. I wouldn't do that deal off the strength that I think Conley/Miller are worth more and I'd prefer a first round pick in this year's draft. Anything can happen though.

....You can't just unload Portland's junk and expect Memphis to give two great players in return.

The short answer is a no, no, no, never. Conley has the potential to be a good point guard, Miller is already a steady pro. Jack has played well, but he isn't going to be more than solid, Webster is too inconsistent and Frye is just another jumpshooting big man. It doesn't help the Grizzlies at all, it would have to be a deal where they get a great prospect or a high draft pick in return to even think about such a trade.

Re: Portland- Memphis
What do you guys think about Navarro?
Having Navarro and Crittenen, does that let you guys listen to offers for Conley at all?
Like lets say a Jack, Outlaw and a 1st or somethin' like that? This years first (13) and a future first, and a player like Outlaw, Webster or Jack?
Obviously Gay is untouchable.
Could you guys let me know what you think?

Not really - both Navarro and Crittenton are twos, while Conley's a pure one.

I'm not really interested in a big deal with the Blazers, but if we get Derrick Rose, I wouldn't mind (from a fan's perspective) seeing Conley to Portland for a nice package (Outlaw + this year's pick or Webster + this year's pick). Conley with Oden would be a great marketing move for Portland, and more importantly, a point of Conley's caliber would solidify them as a playoff team.
That'd give Memphis:
PG Rose
SG Miller
SF Gay
PF Warrick
C Milicic
Bench: Lowry, Outlaw, Collins, Crittenton, Portland's #1, LA Lakers' #1
Get either Clark or Love with Portland's pick. Get BPA with the Lakers' pick (Kyle Weaver?).
RFA: Navarro (I hope we resign him, but I kinda doubt it)
Goodbye: Kwame Brown, Andre Brown, Casey Jacobsen, Aaron McKie
This is ALL, of course, dependent on getting Derrick Rose.

Re: Portland- Memphis
^yea see, that is what i'm thinkin'. The draft is deep with 1s and combo guards this year, so memphis is gettin' a high pick there. There they had Navarro and Crittenin. So I thought maybe conley was available with another 1st, cash, LaFrentz' expiring deal, and then like Outlaw?
I understand if you guys wouldn't do it, b ut i think its a good deal. Portland would probably even take a deal off your books, and give you Raef's expriing deal, which would be nice for Memphis.

Re: Portland- Memphis
Maybe something like Outlaw + Jack --> Conley + Cardinal ? Not sure on salaries but just throwing it out there..
Portland could throw in the #13 pick this year?

Re: Portland- Memphis
^yea for sure.
So you guys would think a Outlaw, Jack, 1st, LaFrentz (expiring deal) or cash, or future pick, or 2nd for Conley and a contract you guys want to unload?
Its a pretty good deal for you guys, gettin' rid of contracts, taking on good young players, picks, and an expiring deal. If you guys have players like Navarro and Crittenen, and a high pick this year, and a #13 from us also, I'm just wondering if you guys would part with Conley. While he hasn't proved a lot in the NBA, i think he shows good flashes, and playing with Oden would be cool for him. We REALLY need a PG, and a lot of the PGs that we covet are pretty impossible to get ahold of.

If we got Derrick Rose, I would absolutely do that deal.
