Let's see:
Melo is a proven 25 and 8 guy, which Gay will probably never be.
Camby brings instant rebounding adn defense, and he'll retire in maybe 2-3 years, bringing flexibility right when your rebuilding will be at a critical point to add a proven vet to get you to "that next level."
With Melo, you also have a marketability that nobody on your team has been able to bring to date. Pau's great, but he's not marketable. Who would rush out to buy the new Pau Gasol basketball kicks?  See my point? With Melo there, you'll also attract some FA's to come your way in the near future. It could really help your team.
I do'nt expect it to happen, but I like to bounce ideas around just to get the feel of how people react to situations.

I mean, it's possible that he can get there, but to me, it just seems like he's about where he will end up. A great player who will never lead the league in scoring.
Melo could very well lead the league in scoring. He's the type of player who sulks wihtout the ball, and that is the mentality that leading the league in scoring takes. Gay doestn' seem to be that type of player.
There's nothing wrong with being a 21-6 guy, don't get me wrong.

He's reached his potential at 21 years old? 21 ppg is his absolute highest peak?
That's all well and good to bounce around ideas, but your assessment of Gay is way, way off.

Also, Camby doesn't do much besides collect some hollow statistics. He's been exposed the last couple of years, and don't make it sound like his contract expiring in 2010 is some huge prize.
Camby also doesn't want to come to Memphis. Doesn't like the city.
I just don't know how you can seriously suggest how Rudy Gay and our No. 1 pick (even if it turns out to be in the Top 2) for Carmelo Anthony would be a good idea for us. Gay has a superstar mentality -- he plays with a chip on his shoulder, wants to take over games and comes up big in fourth quarters. What you're describing doesn't sound like the same guy I know.

Maybe it isn't...I don't see every game like you do.
However, you have to admit taht Gay isn't exactly marketable...he has a bummer of a last name.
