I don't know. If we are dealing some of our guards (since we have a logjam at both guard positions), I think it must be for a big man or a backup SF. However, if we're getting one of Magic SG's in return, I would like to see us taking a chance on J.J. Redick (along with a draft pick, of course).

I'm starting to hear some contradictory things.... If anything gets done, we should hear about it by the end of the week. But don't hold your breath tho......the more time that goes by, the more likelihood it probably wont go through....
This just came out....

Otis Smith said he would like to sign a third point guard. He currently is scouting players in the Las Vegas summer league. "You got to look when you have the chance; that's why I'm here," he said.
Smith said he has looked at several teams in hopes to acquire a third point guard, including the Memphis Grizzlies (Kyle Lowry and Javaris Crittenton), but talks have yet to heat up. Crittenton is playing in Las Vegas.
Said Crittenton's agent, Wallace Prather, "I've spoken to both GMs [Smith and Grizzlies' Chris Wallace], and there's no deal on the table or any deal pending. There's nothing I'm aware of."
It may be a smokescreen or it may be legit, idk.......i was pretty confident it would get done earlier, but im starting to have some serious doubts..

Translation: Otis asked for Javaris in exchange for crap, and Chris Wallace said no thank you.

This would be worse than the Camby trade because the Magic have very few assets to offer that would be useful to a young Grizzly team. Redick will likely be a guy you could outright sign in free agency soon enough. Javaris Crittenton will likely be a commodity on the free agency market. I just don't see why you don't keep him and play him at the backup 2 guard spot. He's 6-5 and much more of a scorer than playmaker. Jaric is 6-7 and good enough to play the backup 3 spot and Kyle Lowry the backup point. The way I see it, your backcourt is in excellent shape and has equally excellent balance.
Crittenton has a lot more value, he has already shown some good signs and that is enough to have good value if you're 20 years old. At some point it's inevitable that one of the four young guards will be traded, but there is no need to rush that decision. They might just keep all for now and play the season with this backcourt rotation.
The Orlando Magic are still looking at options to improve the roster and the one question filling the inbox these days is, how serious is the talk of a Memphis Grizzlies point guard coming to Orlando? First, Kyle Lowry is not going anywhere, cross him off your list – Kyle, Rudy Gay and Hakim Warrick have become very close, so close they are rooming with each other in Vegas. We joked with them calling them "The Three Amigos" and they liked that title. Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace and Memphis head coach Marc Iavaroni both said they are looking forward to a spirited training camp with lots of competition at the guard spots, hinting that no one is guaranteed a starters role yet. Mike Conley Jr and Kyle Lowry will be the guards of the future for the Grizz for the foreseeable future. Enter Javaris Crittenton; he is clearly the odd man out, and the target of the Magic's affections. The Grizzlies are in cost cutting mode, they will not be taking on any serious salary in any deal. The Magic are rumored to have offered Keith Bogan's to the Grizz who were luke warm on the idea, instead suggesting that JJ Redick and a first round pick would be the starting point, according to Grizzlies sources. The logic behind the situation is that Redick is approaching free agency and will likely go where he can get the best situation to play and be paid, and that's not likely Memphis, so the first round pick is really what the Grizz plan to "keep". The appeal of Redick from a fan point of view and that chance that he is truly a star is temping so it's two assets for one, and that's where the talks seem to be stalled. The Magic are in a tough spot with the salary cap, and the only way they can add anything of substance is through the draft, either in drafting a player or trading the pick. Trading two assets for the Magic is a tough sell, especially for an unproven young guy in Crittenton. There is legitimate interest, and confirmed discussions, although it seems for now, unless the Grizz come off their stance, the price tag for Javaris Crittenton may be too rich for Orlando's blood.
So it sounds like the Grizz are asking for Redick and a 1st and the Magic are having some 2nd thoughts.......I would probably do that deal cuz Redick is useless to us, but at the same time, Critt is unproven as well so I could see us being a little hesitant.....I still hope it gets done tho.

Very interesting. I think it would probably benefit both sides, but i still like Crit as the backup 2 on the Grizz.

There is no need to trade Crittenton if you don't get more in return. Let him show what he can do before you rush a move just to sort out the backcourt.
The only problem is that Jaric will be the backup 2.
I still think the best route is to try and trade Jaric for a PF/C with a deal as bad or worse....Nazr, Troy Murphy, Boris Diaw, or maybe UnoNut (NeNe).

I would actually take even Jared Jeffries from NY, Dan Gadzuric from Milwaukee or Walton and Mihm from Lakers for him. It's not that Jaric is a bad player, but there is no need for him in this team.

I would love Crittenton on the Magic. Unfortunately (for me) I don't see how a deal gets done, it just doesn't make any sense for Memphis. The Magic have basically no tradeable assets.

A trade that seems to make sense to me is one that sends Kyle Lowry and Hakim Warrick to the Nuggets in exchange for Linas Kleiza, Chucky Atkins and a future protected first round pick.
The Nuggets get two rotation players for one, and lose another $1 million in salary this season. The Grizzlies get rid of their PG clog, acquire a solid young rotation player and a get a future first rounder.

What about a Lowry+Warrick trade to Portland for Frye and Sergio Rodriguez? Would Portland take it?
