Matchups to Watch

James Posey hopes to contain Lamar Odom's all-around game.

Bonzi Wells leads Memphis' second unit against Rafer Alston and the Heat bench.

Head Coach: Hubie Brown
<a class="sag" href="#top">Back to Top</a>
Notes
Memphis goes for a franchise-record seventh straight victory tonight against Miami after handling the Hawks at home, 103-90. Pau Gasol has been the model of consistency lately, now averaging 18.0ppg and 8.7rpg. Mike Miller has slowly found his shot, dropping 22 points in the win against Atlanta. Earl Watson has looked very comfortable in the starting PG role, filling in for Jason Williams, putting in 20 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds after handing out 14 assists last Sunday.
Keys to Victory
Memphis, in the last couple games, has sunk really low in the first half before storming back in the second to win the game by double-digits. That shouldn't happen tonight. Miami is the team that the Grizzlies are built to dismantle. They have no true PG, no real size down low, and all the scorers are out on the wings. Barring a defensive breakdown, the Grizz, sporting a 6-5 road record, should come out on top here.
Injury Report
- Jason Williams is doubtful (strained back muscle).
- Theron Smith, Troy Bell, and Ryan Humphrey are on the injured list.
Head Coach: Stan Van Gundy
<a class="sag" href="#top">Back to Top</a>
Notes
Miami is coming off an impressive drubbing of the Amareless Phoenix Suns, 92-72. Eddie Jones is having possibly the best season of his career, in a year where he was expected to lose his job to sophomore Caron Butler. Butler, however, has been sidelined with injury and subsequent surgery. The Heat made some baffling moves in the off-season, drafting a SG in Dwyane Wade and SF in Lamar Odom when their two best players played those same positions. It has resulted in, at times, four wing players out on the floor at the same time. However, they seem to be figuring out rotations lately, and Rafer Alston has been playing heavy minutes at PG, allowing Wade to shift to his natural position.
Keys to Victory
Despite their lack of size down low, the Heat are actually outrebounding their opponents. Jones and Odom are both capable of putting up 30 points on good nights, and Wade has been impressive despite starting out of position. They are 5-4 at home.
Injury Report
- Caron Butler (quad) is probable.
- Rasual Butler, Jerome Beasley, and Malik Allen are on the injured list.

I won't be able to watch or see the game tonight. I'm done with finals, and I'll be driving back to Memphis.
Keep the thread active.

Our depth should be a major factor tonight because Miami really has no bench to speak of, especially when Caron Butler is back in the starting lineup, and Odom moves to the four. Miami should come out with confidence due to the win over Phoenix. The Grizzlies need to strike early, and avoid another mediocre first half.
And here's to no more finals for me and rawse.

1. One of only seven players in NBA history to average 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists while shooting 50% or more from the field in a playoff series (the others are Bob Cousy, Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan). Wade accomplished this in two consecutive series in the 2005 playoffs.
2. Joined Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, and Allen Iverson as the only players ever to record games of 40+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 15+ assists in the same playoff season in 2005.
3. Holds the record for being the only player in NBA history to ever average at least 30 points on 69.5 field goal percentage for four consecutive NBA playoff series games (5/23/06-5/29/06). The last record was held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 63%. Wade accomplished it with less than 20 field goal attempts per game
4. Fifth player in NBA history with at least 30 points, 15 assists and 5 rebounds in a playoff game (5/10/05 vs. WAS). The others are Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Walt Frazier and Oscar Robertson.
5. One of four players in NBA history to have at least 30 points and 12 assists in three consecutive games (November 24-27, 2006). The others are Oscar Robertson, Nate Archibald, and Kevin Johnson. [5]

The Gasol NBA domination tour should continue in Miami. Looking forward to another Grizz win.

Yet he's averaging a career best in points per game, except for the 99-00 season.
His other categories are a bit down, but he's been relatively effective, considering the guys on the team that play his position.

I noticed that, although the Memphis newspaper reads the starting lineup that Van Gundy's been using previously. Since I'm getting this from a Heat fan, though, I'll switch it.

our bench actaully is not as bad as it seems. Rafer has played very well, Rasual is coming back, Woods has been solid and haslem has been a huge suprise. and wallace could score. Our bench really is not that bad.
