Fast Start Sign of Grizzly Progress

"I see a real tight-knit team," West said. "And if somebody tells me there's a better coach in basketball . . . well, I don't think so. He's just been terrific. . . . Our coaches have taken all of these pieces and put them together to the point where it's really fun to watch."

West gave Brown six new players before the season began. Then, the Griz made an eyebrow-raising deal that sent Wesley Person to Portland for perceived bad boy, Bonzi Wells.

Nothing or no one has disrupted the mix.

"Bonzi Wells is a major acquisition," West said. "We might have gotten our best all-round player."

"He's got a wonderful feel for the game, and he's someone you can throw the ball to late in the game for him to go get a shot or make a play."

Asked if he was done dealing, West suggested that it may take an unbelievable offer to tinker with this bunch.

"I don't say you ever think you're done. We still have a need," West said. "But at this time, I don't see us doing anything.

"We're the third youngest team in terms of age. We're the third youngest team in terms of experience. When you're like that, you're a lot more reluctant to mess with something. So we're not actively seeking anything right now."

Except, of course, more wins.

Considering where the Grizz were when West took over, the short time he's had to turn things around, and where we are now, the results are simply amazing.

He had basically little or no NBA talent when he arrived. He took his lemons and made a huge jug of lemonade in a very short time.

Aside from the trade with Orlando for Miller, West made no major earth shaking deals. Basically he has the ability to give up little of nothing and get a lot in return. Note Bonzi for Wesley, Person for Anderson. He is truly an amazingly talented man. He spots Posey & realized the Rockets will be hard pressed to keep him, so he makes an offer and signs him. He trades nothing and get Big Jake & Outlaw.

Makes you wonder where the Grizz will be in 2 years.

right now it's looking like they'd be a title contender by then, if not champs already.

this team was full of garbage players, but west drafted a couple players, made a few trades, signed a couple players, then all of a sudden it's become the deepest team in the league.

also players who were dubbed as "cancer" or "no good" like JWill and Bonzi have been playing well under Hubie brown. he's really turned those 2 around. swift who had work ethic problems also seems to be finding consistent minutes off the bench.

It's been ten years, and I say if Michael Jordan chose to still play the game of basketball, he'd dominate.
