Re: Men's Bball Day 3 Thurs Aug 2nd
You are posting a video of Herm Edwards when he was the coach of the New York Jets.
Excuse me, but I don't recall the New York Jets ever playing the Nigeria national football team. They played other NFL teams. It's a farce. A joke. A turnoff. If you enjoy wipe-outs, then have at it. I am giving my opinion, and my opinion is that the USA is basically making a mockery of the basketball bracket. I guess most of you guys didn't enjoy the experience of seeing our college guys go up against another nation's pros and beat them. Well, I did. And that was a hell of a lot more enjoyable than anything I have seen in the past 20 years. For sure.

Sure, I'd rather see competitive games. But that's what the medal rounds are for. I want us to win gold. I want to go against the best teams in the world, with their best players. If our best players are better than your best players, then we deserve a gold medal. If you beat our best 23u team, and win gold, what does that prove when you have older guys playing NBA ball in our country? We lost a few years ago, and barely medaled. Now that we're dominant, we need to take it easy on the rest of the world? We played a BAD Nigeria team today and were on fire. It's no different than swimmers going up against Lochte and Phelps and have no chance the moment they splash in the water. Some of those guys have zero chance, just like the Nigeria's and Tunisia's of the world. Others have a small chance, but odds are in favor of the best winning. |

I think wr should do what Europe does for soccer. Make room for three nba players and the rest are college players.

Re: Men's Bball Day 3 Thurs Aug 2nd
Keep in mind soccer has the World Cup which has no age restrictions and allows countries all over the world to compete against each other. I don't mind splitting the difference as they do, with one major competition being u-23, and the other being inclusive, but our inclusive competition should be the Olympics. We can go u-23 for the World Championships, and I'd be ok.

I agree. The Olympics should be the best of the best for any country period.

Re: Men's Bball Day 3 Thurs Aug 2nd
The only problem is that the United States is so much more talented it's not even remotely fair in any competition. We all accept this as fact. The only question is is this unsportsmanlike to be this dominant? I feel that we need to use these game to create more great nba players and not use these games as a romp for these all stars.

Re: Men's Bball Day 3 Thurs Aug 2nd
I keep reading that this win fell 17 points short of the olympic record for biggest margin of victory but I can't seem to find the game that had the biggest margin. Anyone know when/where/who ?

Re: Men's Bball Day 3 Thurs Aug 2nd

Several bigger margins the last time the games were in London...Iraq must have had a very low basketball IQ in the 1940's.

Re: Men's Bball Day 3 Thurs Aug 2nd
I just don't understand why we should be punished for being better at baskeball. Doesn't handicapping the best country in the world take the fun out of it? How satisfying would it be to beat the U.S. when you know you didn't actually beat their real team?

Re: Men's Bball Day 3 Thurs Aug 2nd
There is no such thing as unsportsmanlike margin of victory. There is unsportsmanlike behavior that can result from lopsided victories though. If you are up by a large margin and you still press the length of the court, or keep your starters in the game instead of playing bench guys, or just generally winning like a snob for example.
This is the Olympics we are talking about here, not the First United Methodist Vacation Bible School League. I mean how insulting is it to the rest of the world to get so good that you start to talk about self handicapping? Any athlete with self esteem and integrity wants to play the best. Just read what most opponents say after losing to the US Mens team. Most are so happy to have represented their country and test themselves against the best in the world. If you want to run up the score on the United States JV squad knowing full well that there are multiple hundreds of American ballers that are held out because they are too good then you really should be thinking of what kind of competitor you are. Competition is dead. Hugging will be an Olympic sport before I'm dead. Everyone gets Gold Silver and Bronze.
