I am going over drafting options, assuming we get 1 of 4 players- Rose, Beasley, Bayless, or Lopez
I am also assuming we get Marion back, as his option will be the most money he could make this year- no other team will give him more
My third assumption is that we will not get an impact guy with the MLE/money in free agency, as this is not a good fa year to be honest
so option 1- get lucky and Draft Rose
Rose, Wade, Marion, Haslem would be definite starters. Do we play Blount at center, or play Wright at sf, Marion at pf, and Haslem at center. Go uptempo?
Option 2- Get lucky and Draft Beasley
Wade, Beasley, Haslem, Marion would be definite starters imo. Do we play Beasley, Marion, Haslem at the forwards and center, and put a pg like Banks in, or do we bench one of these forwards?
Option 3- Lopez
Haslem being a c would not matter. The lineup would be Banks, Wade, Marion, Haslem, Lopez
Option 4- Draft Bayless
same thing as Rose, except a worse player, lol.
so on 3 of these options, imo the best option would be Haslem at center..... can he handle the position full time, or will it not matter if the team goes uptempo?

Wade accomplished this in two consecutive series in the 2005 playoffs.
2. Joined Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, and Allen Iverson as the only players ever to record games of 40+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 15+ assists in the same playoff season in 2005.
3. Holds the record for being the only player in NBA history to ever average at least 30 points on 69.5 field goal percentage for four consecutive NBA playoff series games (5/23/06-5/29/06). The last record was held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with 63%. Wade accomplished it with less than 20 field goal attempts per game
4. Fifth player in NBA history with at least 30 points, 15 assists and 5 rebounds in a playoff game (5/10/05 vs. WAS). The others are Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Walt Frazier and Oscar Robertson.
5. One of four players in NBA history to have at least 30 points and 12 assists in three consecutive games (November 24-27, 2006). The others are Oscar Robertson, Nate Archibald, and Kevin Johnson. [5]
well, if you want to include Mayo he would create the same type of lineup dilemma as Rose/Bayless would
I put Lopez in there because he is regarded as a top 5 pick and top center in the draft. And our biggest needs are pg and center

Haslem is too small to primarily play Center. He could do it against certain matchups though. Lord knows if you get Beasley he's going to need a shot blocker behind him.

Zo , i cant think of a better shot blocker then him..As for UD at center, ya i guess he could, but i dont see us winning a championship with him at C

As a coach, you want to put your players in a position to be as successful as possible - Haslem at Center isn't doing that. Yes, he can fill in there for a few minutes a game - and if injuries mounted, he's someone you could desperately start there, but why come out of the offseason with that as your solution? You can find a better choice and either keep him at PF, bring him off the bench, or trade him.

Against smaller teams, sure. Because of our weak center rotation, I wouldn't mind Haslem averaging 10 minutes or less throughout the entirety of the season.
The reason we can't play Haslem at center is cause of 2 things;
1) Post Defence
2) Rebounding
Our other options at center are Blount and Mourning (assuming he comes back to the Heat). Blount can't do either anyway, and Zo can only play limited minutes.
So while people are quick to say "Haslem can't play center", its not like we have a better option. I'm also hoping with Marion/Beasley at the forwards, they'll make up for the weak center position rebounding.
Hopefully our better, faster defenders (ie. Marion) and an up-tempo game will help us deal with dominant inside centers like Dwight, for example by playing passing lanes and having a man play him front and back to deny him the ball.
But nah I don't really want Haslem playing center too much, not as a permanent fixture.
