Okafor would be a great compliment to our team, as long as hes healthy. We dont need more injured important players. I like the idea of having a quality double double Center to go along with our offensive talents in Wade and Beasley. Add that to our quality role players in Jones, Haslem, Zo, Chalmers etc and we have a nice nucleus.
With Beasley's lack of height at PF, mediocre defense and scoring mentality, a defensive, shot-blocking C is something you always need to put next to him. That's exactly what Okafor is.
I would do this trade in a heartbeat.
Exactly, and I would too. Besides i don't want to wait til 2010 for something that may or may not happen..

Okafors defense, rebounding and shot blocking disappears against top flight C/PF. That and the fact that his back health is a major concern is why the Cats havent locked him up!
Well, we'd really only be playing him at C, and how many "top flight" Cs are there in the league?
Dwight Howard - duh
Yao Ming? - soft
Gred Oden? - another beast, but injury prone and unproven
Andrew Bynum? - emerging, but is he "top flight"?
Tim Duncan? - Not a starting C
Tyson Chandler? - would we really have to worry about his potential dominance?
Samuel Dalembert? - ditto...and is he even "top flight"?
Andris Biedrins? - ditto
As you can see, they're not a lot, and some are questionable in terms of being "top flight" (not sure if you mean high leapers or elite Cs, either way). The only real concern about Okafor that we could have would be potential back problems. But hey, he played and started 82 this season. That should mean something. I just don't see us being able to get a Dwight, Oden, or Bynum (prying them from their current teams would be hard enough) in this line-up and still have room for Wade, Beas, and another necessary key component. I'd be perfectly happy to settle with Okafor, as long as he stays healthy.

Even if we only play him at C it will still be his job to guard the opposing teams top interior player. If he could do that do you really think the Cats would be entertaining the thought of trading him?

The real concerns with Okafor are his lingering back problems and the possibility that hes nothing more then a watered down version of a prime Big Ben. To make matters worse he thinks that averaging 13pts and 10reb (on the Cats crappy frontcourt) is worth $75/85mill!
If he could do that do you really think the Cats would be entertaining the thought of trading him?
Well i think that the reason they might be trading him is because he wants to get out of there, and they might lose him the year after next anyway, so maybe they are looking for something in return?
Anyway, I think you guys really need someone like him. Ya'll need someone to match up with the Lakers (Bynum), Blazers (Oden) and Orlando (Howard) for the future.
It seems that the 3 dominant Centers in the NBA right now are all on good teams that will be competing for a while, so getting someone like Okafor would be a real big help for you guys. I think him and Beasly would work great together.
And for a PG, i think i'd want Chalmers as my starting PG right now, as i think he is your PG of the future, and i think his development is going to play a big part in your future hopes for another title (this is my opinion of course).
Good luck. I like the heat, and the players you have on there, AND your fans, as you guys really aren't as bad as say Laker fans when they have a good team and so on. Lets hope this gets done! Fingers crossed.
Plus, I think i'm in love with NewAgeBaller...

Good point on the matchup thing. The Lakers, Blazers, and Honrnets are probably the team the Heat are looking at playing if they make a Finals run in the next few years. Emeka could atleast contain top centers in the league for us.

Hes not worth Dwight Howard $$$!
They're entertaining trading him because HE WANTS OUT. They dont want to keep a disgruntled player for a year who doesn't want to be there.
And once again, he played all 82 last year. Okafor has never played with a PF of Beasley's caliber or a guard of Wade's. Don't you think his production could improve with all of the attention from the opposing team being taken off of him? I think it would.
Lastly, I would bet that he'd take less money to play down here, for several reasons.

He wants out because they arent willing to pay him Dwight Howard $$$! They offered $55mill and he said no!

Okafors ceiling is maxed out. His O is limited and his D cant stop any of the top big men.

Hes not taking less $$$ from anyone...the man is looking to get paid.
No-one will pay him Dwight Howard cash until he puts up Dwight Howard numbers. He may be after Andrew Bogut cash, which you cant really blame him. I think he could be had for 60-65 mill over 5. Hes healthy now and would be an anchor down low defensively. We dont need him to be an offensive force, but he could definately be a double double guy at C which would be huge for us.

I get the feeling he just wants out of Charlotte. Period. Demanding a ridiculous contract is one way to kick-start that.
Most Centers can't stop the best Centers in the league: Dwight and Yao, basically. There aren't too many more to worry about, and so what if they go off on us? They probably would anyway, all we really need him to do is anchor the D and protect the basket. He doesn't have to shut down Howard or Yao nightly.
Players have improved their offense at various stages of their career. Who do you think has better big man coaches, Charlotte or Miami? One coach in particular strikes me...
On top of that, we don't need him to score, that's what Beasley is for.
But, like pointed out earlier, lets say we make the playoffs this year against the Raptors or Magic, who we going to put on Bosh(Center for the Raptors, I think)or Dwight Howard? Emeka Okafor could be a solid defensive and rebounding force for us against weaker front courts and on other nights he'll go a long way in containing a man child who would tear through Mark Blount and Joel Anthony(Why'd we let earl go?).
