Can Spoelstra if he isn't going to change. We CANNOT be successful with what we're doing right now. If you read the Haslem quote at the end, it tells the whole story about this team. We should be better than this.
Re: Breaking News: Heat are too predictable, our players say
The team isn't very talented outside of Wade and Beasley.

Re: Breaking News: Heat are too predictable, our players say
What the hell is Spoelstra supposed to do? Give him the 2004-2005 or 2005-2006 Heat team and I'll bet a whole load of money we'd run a much better offense. We have no talent.
At PG with have three useless players. We have Alston who has been traded through his entire career and was run out of NEW JERSEY. If he was a good player for them, he could have whined all day and they would have still kept him on roster. We have Carlos Arroyo who didn’t make an NBA roster last year and no one wanted but us this offseason. We also have Mario Chalmers who suddenly is playing like a second round talent and is a flat out headcase now.
At SG we have Wade. Bravo. Behind him we have Daequan Cook who went from being a dead eye shooter to having no ability. Ira pointed it out and it’s the truth; maybe the pre-All Star Break level he was at last year was the exception, not the rule. He was sent to the D-League his first year. First round picks once you get past the lottery in the NBA are risky and it’s looking like we missed here.
At SF this is a freaking joke. We have Quentin Richardson who was passed around the NBA like a joint this offseason and has a bad attitude and is vastly overpaid. He started off the year strong and is now the Quentin Richardson we all knew he was in New York. We have James Jones who has fallen off the map completely. Everyone has a crush on Dorell Wright whose best days were as a human victory cigar along with Wayne Simien. We then have Diawara who plays like the roster filler he is.
At PF we have Michael Beasley who we all agree is a great talent but is young. We have Udonis Haslem who is our one true, NBA caliber veteran forward on roster. Problem is he’s best playing next to a big time center, definitely not being called on to be our best defender and rebounder in our front court.
At C we have Jermaine O’Neal who was ejected from Indiana and then ran out of Toronto. He has been dogging it since December and whining as he does it. Behind him we have Joel Anthony who at best should be a situational player and Jamaal Magloire who was a desperation pickup coming off an absolutely terrible year for the Mavericks and Nets.
That is not a winning roster! Aside from our draft picks, every single player on that roster comes from a desperation signing or a trade where the other team was ready to ship them out for anything they could get. Anything.
Why is it ok for Riley to play his hand for 2010 but it's not ok for Spoelstra to play his by keeping Wade happy? Spoesltra is doing his best to keep Wade happy because the first time he forces an offense that isn’t revolved around Wade or keeps Wade’s bff Haslem on the bench, Wade will be mad and Spoelstra will take the bullet. I don’t see Riley coming out and backing Spoelstra like any other GM would do for their coach.
Why are we supposed to allow Beasley to make mistakes in his second year but not Spoelstra? Spoelstra is the youngest head coach in the NBA. You have to give him atleast three years, because if no one saw these struggles coming, they’re crazy. If Riley wasn’t ready to back the NBA’s youngest coach for atleast three years, then he should have replaced himself with a more established coach that was available like Mike Fratello or Flip Saunders.
Are we in a win now mode or are we rebuilding? Riley needs to make this clear. Spoelstra is handcuffed with a bad roster due to the 2010 plan but he is being expected to win each game and compete for a good playoff spot against teams in win now mode. He doesn’t even have a young team to build around. He has old cast offs to work with at most positions. No other coach in the NBA right now has the situation he’s in; old players, being expected to win now with the players he has, but dealing with a roster that is admittedly weak due to a FA plan in the coming offseason. Riley either needs to pony up at the deadline for a big time talent next to Wade so we can win some games or he needs to pat Spo on the back, tell him to play the young guys, and accept the losses. Doesn’t help he has to soothe his super star’s feelings every day and pray to God he doesn’t say the wrong thing to the press that paints his superstar as anything but a combination of Magic Johnson, John Havlicek, and Larry Bird with a little Michael Jordan on top.
No other coach in the NBA would deal with the conditions he is put under. Spoelstra in a few years will be one of the best coaches in the NBA and I hope here when it happens so it doesn’t blow up in Miami’s face. Still, I understand in some eyes since he’s not great now that he should be sent along with Michael Beasley even though we know in three or four years we’ll look like utter fools for running them off.

Quote:
"Just look at other teams and I don't get overwhelmed by their roster," forward Udonis Haslem said. "Taking nothing away from Cleveland, they're one of the best teams in the league. They got LeBron; we got D-Wade. They got Shaq averaging about 12 and seven; we got J.O. averaging about 12 and seven. They got Mo Williams averaging 16; we got Bease averaging 16.
"It's not lack of talent. I'm sick of people saying that."
Is Haslem for real?
Bron has a legit frontcourt (Shaq/Varejao/Big Z/Hickson) and 3-4 really nice shooters!
Re: Breaking News: Heat are too predictable, our players say
A good start SPO would be to not play the same line up, and same rotations (or close to it) game in and game out that got us to 8-13 since the beginning of January.
Here's an idea, let Magloire get some starts, or at least some real playing time. Let Dorell get some starts. Put Arroyo back in the starting line up. Mix it up. What's the point of just going with the flow if the flow obviously isn't working. Trying something different certainly isn't going to hurt IS it?
I'd like to see a line up of
Arroyo
Wade
Wright
Beasley
Magloire
Have Jermaine off the bench for an offensive spark. His legs can't seem to handle starter minutes any way, he has flashes of solid contribution then fades away for a huge stretch every game. At least if he comes off the bench WE get to decide when he gives that spark.
Re: Breaking News: Heat are too predictable, our players say
Stole this from John Hollinger;
Quote:
As a result, everyone in Miami is on a knife's edge over Wade's recent comments indicating displeasure with the Heat's play and their strategy. Still, the general view from Miami insiders is that Wade's postgame vent the other night was much ado about nothing. When you break it down, in fact, what he said about the Heat wasn't exactly breaking news. In the depths of a five-game losing streak, he said the Heat's offense was too predictable and that coach Erik Spoelstra had confusing rotations.
Duh. The Heat are predictable, because they have only three players who can get their own shot and because so much of the offense flows through Wade. You can only do so many counters, misdirections and ball reversals before settling for a side pick-and-roll with Wade and Jermaine O'Neal. If the other team has seen it the past eight trips, not to mention the last eight times you've played them, they're probably going to be ready for it.
And yes, the Heat do have confusing rotations, and that shouldn't be a surprise either. In any given game, Spoelstra has about eight players of roughly equal mediocrity that he can mix and match based on what the opponent does. On Wednesday night, for instance, he chose to ride a rare hot hand from Daequan Cook and a strong outing from Dorell Wright, both of whom neared their season highs in minutes. Next game, it could be Carlos Arroyo or Quentin Richardson or James Jones. But it's not a coaching problem as much as a roster problem -- the team has three good players in a sport that requires five.
Wow, that looks pretty familiar to someone else's comments.
Again, I refuse to blame Spoelstra for us not being competitive against teams geared up for a championship run when we have sacrificed the past two season to save cap space and cash for 2010. Give him a real roster next year and then everyone will see he is a good coach.
And Heated, I'd love to see that lineup, but I have a good feeling Mickey Arison or Pat Riley would punch Spoelstra if he dispatched JO, Q-Rich, or Alston to the bench. Sadly for this organization, I have a feeling that salaries, if we made a big deal of bring someone in, and what we gave up for a player is the tie breaker to start between two equally mediocre players.
Re: Breaking News: Heat are too predictable, our players say
Give him a real roster and we'll see. You can't convince me Mike Brown is a better coach than Spoelstra and the Cavs are steam rolling people. The Cavs simply have a stacked roster. We have a crap roster.
And, again, you can tweak rotations as much as you want, but we don't have a top roster.
