Former NBA star Robert (Tractor) Traylor is expected to plead guilty in federal court in Detroit this afternoon to a federal income tax charge, the result of his dealings with notorious Detroit marijuana dealer Quassand Lewis, authorities said.
A plea hearing is set for 2 p.m. today before U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn.
Traylor’s lawyer, Steve Fishman, couldn’t be reached for comment.
Traylor, 29, of West Bloomfield, a former University of Michigan star, was charged in December with aiding and assisting in the preparation of a false income tax return, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison. He is accused of claiming a $205,668 loss in 2004 on two apartment buildings that Lewis put in Traylor’s name to conceal their true ownership.
Traylor and Lewis are cousins.
Lewis, 36 of West Bloomfield, was sentenced in December to 18 years in prison and ordered to forfeit $9.5 million worth of cash, jewelry, firearms and his interests in real estate. Prosecutors said he ran a violent ring that shipped more than 33 tons of pot from Arizona to Detroit from 1994-2005.
Traylor played for the Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets.
