6'1 sophomore point guard Keith Young of Triton(IL) College has committed to Norfolk State, making him the third Triton sophomore to make a verbal commitment to an NCAA Division 1 school.
A native of Riverdale, MD, Keith Young has good speed and has the ability to get to the basket in transition. Young is first and foremost a distributor. He can find teammates around the basket, or kick out to open shooters on the perimeter. One area that he can look to improve upon this season is cutting down on turnovers. He will also need to show that he make open jump shots.
In addition to Norfolk State, Young drew interest from Missouri-Kansas City, Montana, Montana State, and Western Illinois. Norfolk State is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, finishing 10-8 in the league last year under coach Dwight Freeman, while achieving an overall record of 14-15. The Spartans will lose 2 guards this year who will either start or play heavy minutes, so Young will have a chance to earn minutes when he enters Norfolk State in 2004. Young will spend this season with his Triton teammates, who hope to improve upon last season's 20-11 record and earn a berth in the NJCAA Division 2 national tournament.
