MSU Sports Information
PG Cedrick Barrow will be a solid candidate for All-MEAC honors this season.
Ronald Timus scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the second half and Cedrick Barrow came up with a key defensive play as Morgan State outlasted the Radio-One All Stars, 86-83 in an exhibition game at Hill Field House.
Timus, A 6-5 sophomore forward from Washington, DC, converted 6-of 13 from the floor and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the stripe. As important as Timus’ scoring was, Barrow’s defensive play down the stretch was equally important.
With the Bears up 85-83, the Radio One had one last attempt at tying the ballgame with 16 seconds remaining. Joe Wiley recklessly plowed over Barrow just inside the 3-point line and was called for the offensive charge. The foul sent Barrow to the line where he ended up dropping in the backend of a 1-and-1 securing an 86-83 victory in front of 325 fans in attendance.
Barrow, a 6-0 senior point guard, finished with 11 points and 3 assists. The Sacramento, CA native will be a solid candidate for All-conference honors and must provide veteran leadership to a very young Bear team.
Junior shooting guard Sam Brand contributed 13 points to the cause, four coming on three-point shots; JUCO transfer Chris Grant had a solid night as he dished out 4 assists and scored 11 points, while senior center Aaron Andrews led the Bears on the glass with 13 rebounds, 9 points and two blocks.
The Radio One All-Stars, a team made up of former Division 1 players, was led by Darryl Prue, who led all scorers with 27 points and Joe Wile and Mike Manns chipped in 15 points each.
Morgan State opens the regular season on Saturday, November 22 when they face the Pirates of Seton Hall in South Orange, New Jersey.
