2006 Starters: What's gonna change?
PG:TJ Ford/Mo Williams
SG:Michael Redd/????
G esmond Mason/????
F:Joe Smith/Zaza Pachulia
C:Andrew Bogut/Dan Gadzuric
As of now, the Bucks are in a difficult position. Michael Redd, the starting, All-Star shooting guard, is a free agent. If he was to leave there would be not one Buck that could replace his position. Pachulia and Gadzuric, two of the Bucks mediocre big men, are also free agents. Gadzuric was also a starter in the 2004-2005 year, and there is no guarantee that Bogut will do incredibly and take over Gadzuric's position.
Who do you think the starters will be? How will the draft/free agents go for the Bucks?

Re: 2006 Starters: What's gonna change?
After getting rid of Keith van Horn and Mike James, the Bucks have more than enough room to go out and resign all their free agents, sign Bogut and pick 36, and even go out and get a suitable backup swingman.

Re: 2006 Starters: What's gonna change?
True, but I think next year the roster could look the same, with a few exceptions. It will be either mo or Tj for the starting pg position. Regardless if Redd leaves or not, the draft pick will start, which would most likely be Bogut.. If Redd stays Bogut will start over Gadzuric. Gadzuric may be more experienced but he is not nearly as big as Bogut and the Bucks need size. Next year it could possibly look like this:
mo williams/ tj ford
bogut
joe smith
Redd
Mason

Re: 2006 Starters: What's gonna change?
I think next year is going to be great. I loved Bogut at Utah, he was the complete leader of his team and even when the oppenents did something to get him out of his game he always had an impact on the game. With the 36 pick I HOPEEEEE we get Gilchrist. Another back up for one of our medicore point guards. I loved him at Maryland and he was such a leader. He obviously is going to get better and has a lot of experience under his belt from going to college. I think the Bucks jsut had a bad season this year theyre going to bounce back. Good question.

What does Michael Redd staying or leaving have to do with a center position? Is Andrew Bogut or DG going to be playing SG?????????
Joe Smith is getting pretty old and Double Z showed me a lot of good things this season. He definitely became a fan favorite immediately. He is a hustler, a worker, and has a love for the game. Zaza does anything that he can to make the Bucks win. I think Zaza will start over Joe.

Zaza over joe isn't as ridiculous as it sounds, but its still ridiculous. Joe has the experience and the defense... zz has energy, a quality best brought in off the bench.
As far as Gilchrist goes, if he slips to 36 the bucks should give him serious thought... but I like jawad williams. There is a thread already up about the number 36 pick.

Re: 2006 Starters: What's gonna change?
Assuming we sign Redd, Gadz, and Zaza, and Andrew Bogut is the #1 pick, which are all pretty reasonable assumptions, the depth chart will look like this:
PG: Mo Williams
SG: Michael Redd/ Reece Gaines
SF: Desmond Mason
PF: Joe Smith/ Zaza Pachulia
C: Andrew Bogut/ Dan Gadzuric/ Calvin Booth
Even without TJ Ford, this is VERY good, young team. Calvin Booth and Joe Smith are coming off the books in 2 years, and if we don't trade them, that will give us around 13 million dollars to use on FA, and resigning players (DMase). This money will probably be used to upgrade the SF position, and allow DMase move back to the 6th man, where he is better suited.
With TJ Ford in the mix, and the #36 pick (hopefully a SF), we really don't have to go out and get any big free agents. When Smith and Booth come off the books, we will have an awesome foundation, and ALOT of capspace to work with....the future is definitly bright.

Listen, DHarris, its not that simple. Mo Williams is not good on D and is sometimes very sloppy on offense. Without TJ noones goign to be able to back him up. I mean come on, Eric Strickland wont to sh*t for us. As for Michael Redd and Reece gaines: Michael Redd would easily make our team stronger and more powerful but Reece Gaines wont to ANYTHING to help usout, which is part of the reason we were losing in the end of the season when Redd was injured, Reece didnt even play during that time. The Joe Smith/Zaza Pachulia combo sounds really good to me as does the Andrew Bogut/Gadz situation.

Re: 2006 Starters: What's gonna change?
sorry gelfand the great, but it is that simple. Even if tj can't come back, there are several quality free agent point guards the bucks could use, my favorite being brevin knight. There is a different thread with this topic, but its relevant to this one. With our stronger frontcourt and swing players, mediocrity at the point wouldnt be such a bad thing, especially when either Dmase or bogut can run the offense anyways.

Re: 2006 Starters: What's gonna change?
but listen, even if TJ doesn't come back, Brevin won't do enough for us, he can have a few good games with assists but otherwise hes not all that great. TJ and Mo both have all around good games, for the most part. The PG isnt even the greatest of our problems, we have noone to back up DMase, noone nearly as good as him. We also have noone to back up Michael Redd, i meen Reece Gaines? wtf?

Re: 2006 Starters: What's gonna change?
Point guard is the easiest poistion to fill. There will be some good undrafted point gurads. Maybe the Bucks could get Travis Diener if he didn't get drafted. It's not good to have 3 young point guards. The Bucks already have Williams and Ford if comes back to develope. No reason to get Gilchrist in my opinon.

I am not saying that this team is going to win the NBA Title next year, I am just saying that even without TJ, we have a very young, quality foundation to build upon, and it keeps us competative. With TJ, and Joe Smith and Booth coming off the books, it makes it that much better.
In 2 seasons, this young foundation, with a few smart FA and draft choices, will be ready to make a legitimate playoff run IMO.
