Del Harris pays a visit

Quote:
St. Francis - Del Harris, the father of Bucks general manager Larry Harris, paid a visit to practice on Friday at the Cousins Center.

It seemed like old times with Del Harris reunited with his son and Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak, who played under the elder Harris in Milwaukee from 1987-'91. Larry Harris also was with the organization during that time as a scout and video coordinator.

Usually at this time of the year, Del Harris would be in another team's training camp. But he retired at the end of last season as the top assistant to Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson.

"He gets to catch up with his son, and I love to visit with him," Krystkowiak said. "As far as Xs and Os and a basketball mind, you'd be pretty challenged to find somebody that's got it figured out more than he does.

"He understood schemes as well as anybody and was able to put his players in positions where we could be successful back in the late '80s and early '90s. We didn't have a real talented team, but he always seemed to get us in the right spots and we played team basketball."

Harris spoke briefly after practice with Bucks rookie forward Yi Jianlian. It was Harris, the former Chinese national team coach, who put Yi in the starting lineup for China in the 2004 Athens Olympics.

"He's an experienced coach, and he helped our team a lot," Yi said. "He just brought his experience to the court and helped us improve a lot for the Olympics."
