Mo plauying too many minutes?
Krystkowiak says Mo needs less
Quote:
Milwaukee Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak wants to start cutting back on point guard Mo Williams' playing time and provide more playing time to his backups.
Although Krystkowiak was able to accomplish that Saturday night against the Detroit Pistons at the Bradley Center, it wasn't exactly under ideal circumstances.
Williams played only 29 minutes against the Pistons but that was only because the Bucks were blown out. With the Bucks trailing by 19 points after three quarters and well on their way to a 117-91 loss, Krystkowiak ran up the white flag and played reserves for the entire fourth quarter.
Charlie Bell and Royal Ivey, who back up Williams at the point, both played the entire fourth quarter. Bell played 21 minutes in all and Ivey got all of his playing time in the final period.
Williams is averaging 35.7 minutes per game, second on the team to Michael Redd (37.2), but in recent games it has not been usual for Williams to log more than 40 minutes per game. In the five games before Saturday, Williams averaged 40.6 minutes, which would be a difficult pace to keep up over the course of an entire season.
"I need to give him more rest, for sure," Krystkowiak said. "It's a heavy dose of minutes. But I think he's doing a good job of running our club
"I think there's a couple other guys in waiting that we probably need to see what they're capable of instead of leaving him on the floor."
The "guys in waiting" would be Bell and Ivey.
