JS: Bucks want more from guard Bell

Quote:
Seattle - This is not exactly what the Milwaukee Bucks had in mind when they decided to retain guard Charlie Bell's services by matching the offer sheet that the Miami Heat presented to him in the off-season.

Bell, who played in all 82 games and was a major contributor to the Bucks last season, has been mired in a season-long slump, and is far from the player he was in 2006-'07. As a result, the Bucks find themselves searching for signs that Bell is ready to break out of his doldrums.

All Bell can say is that he's trying his best to get his game back.

"I know I'm a better shooter than the way I've been shooting it," he said.

"I've got to give this team something to help it win. I haven't been able to do that, and I'm down on myself about that. I want to show that I want to be here, and right now it's tough."

There was a time in the not-so-distant past when Bell did not want to be with the Bucks. As last summer stretched on and Bell, who was a restricted free agent, went without a new deal, his frustration grew. By the time the Heat signed him to an offer sheet in mid-September, he felt he had been scorned by the Bucks, and said publicly that he didn't want to play in Milwaukee anymore. The Bucks matched the offer sheet anyway.

Because of all that, Bell says people are now misreading his body language on the court.

The Bell situation has become a source of frustration to the coaches as they ponder what it will take to get him back on track. Coach Larry Krystkowiak hesitates to even discuss the matter, although he did say recently that if the Bucks are going to be successful this season, they are going to need Bell to play an integral role.
It's a source of frustration for us fans, too.
