JSOnline: Krystkowiak considering lineup shuffle
Quote:
Coach Larry Krystkowiak was cautious in his assessment of the Milwaukee Bucks' latest nose dive - a 102-89 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night at the Bradley Center - but he was feeling confident about one thing.
It appears to be time for a lineup change.
After the Bucks started and finished the game poorly and saw their record fall to 10-15, did Krystkowiak really feel it had come to that?
"I do," he said.
The Bucks thought they had the Kings right where they wanted them, since Sacramento had played the night before in New Jersey and was playing the final game of a five-game trip.
After all, the Bucks had lost in Sacramento a little more than a week earlier when they were finishing up a five-game trip. The Kings didn't seem to care about such things, as they won their third game on the trip.
"We turned a good road trip into a great road trip," Kings coach Reggie Theus said.
For Krystkowiak and the Bucks, meanwhile, it looks like it's time to go back to the drawing board.
"It's not necessarily everybody," Krystkowiak said. "I really want to evaluate the beginning and the end of that game before I say anything (more)."
The beginning? That would be when the Kings made 11 of their first 12 shots and jumped to a 10-point lead in the first quarter. Sacramento cooled off after that, and the Bucks led by one at halftime.
The end? That would be when the Kings sank 3 three-pointers and outscored the Bucks down the stretch, 17-4. That was after Michael Redd sank two free throws to tie the game, 85-85, with 4 minutes 53 seconds left. The Bucks turned the ball over five times in the fourth quarter and 20 times in the game, leading to 27 Sacramento points.
"It's frustrating," Krystkowiak said. "All of a sudden, we go the last 17 possessions of the second quarter and they score one field goal. So they were 1 of 17 to finish the half. Maybe we need to get the defenders on the floor to start with. Maybe that's what it boils down to. Obviously, we haven't done a great job defensively to start games and it's probably going to warrant a lineup change."
Krystkowiak left it at that for the time being.
"I want to evaluate and look at some film and try to figure it out," he said. "And focus on putting a defensive-minded team on the floor."
