JS: Williams likes shift to shooting guard
Which doesn't surprise me at all.
Quote:
The way Milwaukee Bucks guard Mo Williams views his situation, it's all a matter of energy conservation.
That's why Williams has emphatically placed his stamp of approval on the little scheme that coach Larry Krystkowiak concocted over the last three games that had Williams sliding over to shooting guard in the absence of Michael Redd, with Royal Ivey starting at point guard.
It's a plan that freed Williams to average 24.3 points over the last three games and resulted in some of the best ball movement of the season by the Bucks.
And, by the way, it also resulted in three straight victories.
Even though Ivey hasn't shown up big in the box score, Williams thinks that Ivey's presence in the backcourt has taken a huge load off his shoulders.
"I get a little rest on some plays where it's supposed to start with me," said Williams who scored a season-high 35 points Wednesday in a victory over Miami. "Maybe Royal will bring it down and I'll come off a screen or something. I'm still initiating the offense, it's just I can get a breather for a few seconds when I'm not bringing it up. Which is good when you're playing 40-some minutes a night."
Said Ivey, "It takes a lot of pressure off him, with me bringing the ball up and running the offense and guarding the other (team's better guard). It takes some of the pressure off his hands and allows him to play. He's at his best when he can move around and create and look for his shot, too."
In the last three games, Williams has been on the bench for a grand total of 9 minutes 2 seconds. He played the entire game against Miami. But with Redd out and Williams playing so well, Krystkowiak has had little choice but to lean heavily on Williams.
