JSOnline: Krystkowiak to play the most deserving
Quote:
The playing time is there and available. Now let's see who wants it.
That's the message that coach Larry Krystkowiak was conveying as the Milwaukee Bucks prepared for the final game of their final western trip of the season, tonight against the Utah Jazz.
With injuries healing and a longer bench at his disposal, Krystkowiak has decided that he is going to use a simple formula when it comes time to divvy up the playing time.
"We need to come up with some energy . . . guys that are getting after it and competing," he said. "It's a little bit of a commitment to guys that want to get after it and perform.
"It's professional sports at this point. It's on the players right now to step up and earn minutes. We'll keep searching until we can find some guys that are willing to do that."
The first order of business was to get guard Michael Redd back into the flow of things.
After missing four games with a thigh bruise, Redd came off the bench Friday in the loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center, scoring 22 points in 24 minutes. He was back in the starting lineup Saturday night in Phoenix, where the Bucks were defeated by the Suns, and finished with 18 points in 37 minutes.
But the Bucks put in some new offensive sets while Redd was sidelined and Krystkowiak expressed the need for some practice time with Redd taking part. Sunday was the first time they had the opportunity to do that since he returned from his injury.
Redd was glad that he came off the bench in his first game back before returning to his customary starting role.
