Bucks want to get to the line more
Quote:
Michael Redd recalls making an impassioned plea to a league referee during a Milwaukee Bucks game earlier this season when he and his teammates were having difficulty finding their way to the foul line.
"I was teasing one of the referees," Redd said. "I said, 'I know I have a reputation as a jump shooter. But I've been slashing the last couple years and I've got to get something.' "
But such has been life for the Bucks, who have found that the free-throw line has been offering them a double whammy this season. Not only do the Bucks visit the foul line infrequently, but their marksmanship is not exactly flawless when they get there.
In the last six games and in 25 of 39 games this season, the opponent has attempted more free throws than the Bucks. On the season, the Bucks are attempting an average of 22.7 free throws per game compared to 26.5 for the opposition. The Bucks rank 25th in the league in free throws per game.
The Bucks' season high of 41 free throws came in two of their more impressive victories of the season - at Cleveland on Nov. 20 and at home against Dallas four nights later.
"We're probably one of the worst teams in the league as far as getting to the line," Redd said. "No doubt about it. I don't know. There's a big disparity. It would be a lot easier for us (if we got more free throws) . . . it's just easier points. We've got to get to the free-throw line . . . go to people's bodies maybe, get stronger at the rim.
"Every game, we're always wondering why we're not at the free-throw line. A lot of it is on us. But sometimes we think we get bad breaks."

Bucks want to toe line
A four freethrow differential can decide a game. Maybe the answer is to get the ball into Bogut and Yi more in the inside game.
