When he got to the NBA, Moncrief found his old favorites from Boston stood in the way of the Bucks' playoff success. The Celtics had Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish, while the Philadelphia 76ers could boast of Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Andrew Toney and Maurice Cheeks.

Milwaukee reached the conference finals three times but lost to the 76ers in 1983 and the Celtics in '84 and '86.

"We were one of the top four or five teams in the '80s," Moncrief said. "There's no doubt we had talent."

Moncrief said he will never forget the year the Bucks swept Boston in the conference semifinals, 4-0, during the 1982-'83 season. He was named the NBA defensive player of the year that season and led the Bucks in scoring at 22.5 points per game.

Oh man that guy could play...I loved the Celtics so he was a thorn in my side. He is one of those guys who deserved much more recognition in the public eye.

Yes, he did. He might have got it if the Bucks had won a championship, but there's not a lot of heavy media spotlight in Milwaukee.
