Another Yi profile in JSOnline - they've launced a Yi website in Chinese!
The Bucks got more than a basketball player in last year's draft
Quote:
Yi Jianlian might have trouble finding his favorite Chinese foods in Milwaukee. And he misses his school buddies back home.
But the Milwaukee Bucks rookie says he didn't need long to find a personal connection between his seaside hometown of Shenzhen and his new hometown:
When he looks out at Lake Michigan, he thinks of the South China Sea of his boyhood.
"The lake is as big as an ocean," Yi said in an interview available in video on the Journal Sentinel's newly launched Web site, YisWorld.com. "When I came in October, I really liked going by the lake and feeling the wind come off the water."
The launch of the Chinese-language Web site, targeted at the world's largest emerging market, coincides with preparations for Saturday night's game at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee between the Bucks and Houston Rockets, who feature the biggest Chinese star in the NBA, Yao Ming.
In the first Yi-Yao matchup in November, the Rockets beat the Bucks 104-88 in Houston; an estimated 200 million people tuned in to the telecast in China.
About a dozen Chinese diplomats will visit Milwaukee from Washington, D.C., and Chicago for the game as well as for receptions that include a Chinese New Year party sponsored by the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. "Come support Yi Jianlian," the MMAC urged members in an e-mail.
