Game Thread, Bucks vs Grizzlies

In the animal world, this be no contest.

Quote:
Teams: Bucks (18-30) vs. Memphis Grizzlies (13-34).

When: 7 tonight.

Where: FedExForum, Memphis, Tenn.

Broadcasts: TV - FSN Wisconsin cable. Radio - AM-620.

About the Grizzlies: Coming off a loss to Utah on Saturday night, the Grizzlies will be playing their second game since they traded Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers. It will, though, be the first game in a Memphis uniform for guard Javaris Crittenton and Kwame Brown, who were obtained for Gasol but didn't suit up against Utah. It's the final game of Memphis' longest home stand of the season. The Grizzlies are 1-3 so far.

PLAYER TO WATCH
RUDY GAY, Grizzlies

It becomes Gay's team now that Gasol has been traded. He leads the team and all second-year players in scoring (19.7). Gay had some of his best games when Gasol was injured, scoring 30 or more points in four of those seven games. Gay will represent Memphis in the all-star dunk contest.

A close game where the Bucks didn't fold! Woo Hoo! Of course, it was against Memphis.

Re: Game Thread, Bucks vs Grizzlies

the game report:

Quote:
ON THE COURT
PLAYER OF THE GAME: After the game, the Grizzlies were second-guessing their defensive coverage on Bucks guard Mo Williams. "We should have trapped him earlier," Memphis coach Marc Iavaroni said. "We should have gotten the ball out of his hands earlier. That was my mistake. He did a good job down the stretch."

PLAY OF THE GAME: After Williams hit three straight jumpers to give Milwaukee a 98-97 lead, Bucks center Andrew Bogut came up with a huge defensive play by drawing an offensive foul on Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay with 48.7 seconds left. That allowed Williams to finish off Memphis.

OFF THE BENCH: With Yi Jianlian sidelined with an injury, coach Larry Krystkowiak brought Bobby Simmons off the bench to provide some help at both forward positions. Simmons had eight points and seven rebounds in 26 minutes.

STATISTICS SHEET: Krystkowiak was not happy to see Memphis come out and make its first eight shots of the game and take a 19-8 lead. "That's exactly what we've talked about," he said. "Fortunately, the game progressively got better. But we can't come out of the locker room, regardless of who we're playing, and let a team make their first eight shots. We've got to be ready when the gun goes off."

Villanueva strong in victory
By Tom Enlund
Tuesday, Feb 5 2008, 11:02 PM
Memphis - Milwaukee Bucks coach Larry Krystkowiak was happy, and so was forward Charlie Villanueva.

The Bucks defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 102-97, Tuesday night at FedExForum, and life was good in the visitors' locker room afterward.
Villanueva, who had questioned his role with the team recently, got his first start of the season when rookie Yi Jianlian couldn't play because of a shoulder injury and Villanueva made the most of his opportunity. He played 32 minutes and finished with 16 points and 16 rebounds, the most he has gathered in a Bucks uniform.

"He was in around the basket an awful lot ...16 points and 16 boards," said Krystkowiak. "He was playing great. It's really encouraging from our point of view to get him as active as he was tonight."

Yi, who suffered a shoulder injury in last Saturday's game against Houston, missed his first game of the season.

He is listed on the team's injury report as day-to-day but Krystkowiak did not sound as if he thought Yi would be able to play against Dallas on Wednesday night and that Saturday's home game against New York might be a better target date for his return.
