It's Junior Bridgeman night in Milwaukee

And what a good day to pick for it, too. JS has a couple of Bridgeman features in honor of the event:

Bridgeman has interest in investing in Bucks

Quote:
Former Milwaukee Bucks great Junior Bridgeman is interested in being part of a local ownership group once U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl puts the team up for sale.

Bridgeman, in Milwaukee to see his No. 2 jersey rededicated by the Bucks at halftime of their game against the New York Knicks tonight at the Bradley Center, expressed interest in joining an ownership group. Kohl, who bought the team on March 1, 1985, has said in the past that he has no timetable for selling the team but is intent on selling to an owner or ownership group committed to keeping the team in Milwaukee.

And if that's the case, Bridgeman is an interested party.

"I would not want to be the main person," Bridgeman said Friday. "You'd like to add whatever insights you have into the game and that would be how I see being involved."

Asked if he had spoken with Kohl about ownership, Bridgeman said he had talked with the senator about a number of issues.

"But there again, when's he ready I think he will talk to me," he said. "My sense is that you don't push him. It's not anything that he wants public, to happen. When he thinks the time is right, with the right group, I think he'll do something. For the last 20-some years, he has carried the load for the franchise. Just because of that, it deserves to happen on his time frame."

Although Bridgeman is based in Louisville, he has a strong business presence in Wisconsin. Bridgeman oversees 160 Wendy's franchises in five states, including 42 in Wisconsin
Put the team up for sale, Senator!

The Drill: Q&A with Junior Bridgeman

Quote:
Q. As your playing career began to draw to a close, how did you make the transition to business?

A. I really felt that I wasn't situated to just jump into a business. Franchising gave me the blueprint. It just so happened the food aspect came around and I got involved with Wendy's. It just kind of went on from there. Eventually, I began to spend time with accountants and attorneys and people who understand the business.

Q. Being involved with the NBA Players Association must have helped, too.

A. It was a tremendous education, one that, even if you go to the best business school, I don't know that you could pay for that. To understand the business side of basketball . . . and I found the same set of principles apply to any business. It's about your cash flow, your products, taking in more than you can spend. To see basketball in a different way, that really lit the fire for me back then to do something other than basketball.
