JSOnline: Healthy Bucks ready to make playoff push

Quote:
St. Francis - Larry Krystkowiak occasionally watches the popular "Deal or No Deal" game show, and he thinks the format might have some relevance for his Milwaukee Bucks team.

If you would have said on Feb. 8, at the end of a pretty rigorous road schedule, would you be happy at 19-31?" the coach asked after his team's practice Friday.

"It would have been 'No deal,' because we're disappointed with the record."

But on the other hand, what if the Bucks had been told they could be 1½ games out of the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot with 32 games left to play?

"Would you take that?" Krystkowiak asked. "I think we probably would, as frustrating and disappointing as it has been at times."

Before New Jersey won Friday night, the Bucks trailed both the Chicago Bulls and the Nets by 1½ games for the final playoff spot, despite Milwaukee's subpar record. Now the million-dollar question is whether the Bucks can band together to take advantage of a somewhat favorable schedule (20 home games, 12 road games) the rest of the way.

The challenge starts tonight when the Bucks open a four-game home stand by facing the New York Knicks. Bucks scoring leader Michael Redd will return to the lineup after missing the last six games with a left knee strain, and rookie forward Yi Jianlian also expects to be ready after being out two games with a right shoulder strain.

Favorable schedule gives reason for some optimism

Oh, and Bogut has a sore hip.

This speaks more to the sorry state at the bottom of the East than anything else. It looks like whoever is in that #8 slot is going to be a pretty dismal team.

And probably the 7th slot, too.

The Bucks are suffering from dismal coaching for the third year in a row, too. Some better coaching, and they'd have a slightly better record.
